This is my favorite version of “Evil”. Even the artwork in the opening credits is brilliant.

@@victorious8562 No, that title isn't taken by Suchet. Suchet played Poirot more times than any other actor, and had fun imagining him, but he isn't the BEST Poirot. Having read the books and stories I have to admit that Suchet is FAR from who I envision as Poirot...

This is my favorite Agatha Christie adaptation, other than Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express. The Blu-ray has subtitles for the dialogue, which is sometimes hard to catch.

There in a nutshell is the difference between Suchet’s Poirot and Ustinov’s, attention to detail. Suchet became Poirot, Ustinov acted Poirot. Look from 2:30 to see what Ustinov does with the napkin, the real fastidious Poirot (Suchet) would never have done that. He’s just too proper.
@kugelweg3 жыл бұрын
it's funny you say that, because I have read most of the short stories and many of the books, and have YET to see a description of how Poirot would use a napkin. I feel as if Suchet just did what HE would do with a napkin if he were Poirot and Ustinov did what HE would do with a napkin if he were Poirot. To be honest, what Suchet does with his napkin is ridiculous....the folding over and gently ridiculous tapping of his mouth with the perfectly folded napkin is something that I have NEVER written into the stories/books by Christie, unless I have missed something special. Don't watch the Suchet versions and assume they are perfect and all-correct because they most assuredly are NOT!
@SilverSurfer51503 жыл бұрын
@@kugelweg Suchet, from the outset was intent on getting his Poirot as close the books’ original depiction of him in respect of his mannerism. What Suchet does with the napkin is not Suchet doing it. He is doing it the way Poirot would have done it. They look ridiculous to the ordinary person because no one is as fastidious as Poirot.
@kugelweg3 жыл бұрын
@@SilverSurfer5150 In the books and stories I read I see no description of how Poirot uses a napkin. It IS Suchet using the napkin in the way he believed the character would do it. There are a number of things he does in the shows that aren't exactly as written. I was just saying.

The ustinov films had better written and more colourful supporting characters played by famous actors. Suchet might be the better poirot but ustinovs films are more enjoyable on a Sunday afternoon. Don’t even get me started on kenneth brannaghs terrible films. The poirot films ustinov made in the 80s were terrible and set in the modern day made them even worse but death on nile, evil under the sun and appointment with death were great.
