I think you're confusing "homage" with "same". Doom 2016 was an homage to the original Doom, but it vastly improved the gameplay with new mechanics, better controls, etc. Evil West, on the other hand, seems to be regressing toward old school mechanics - waiting for abilities to recharge, for example, is a horribly outdated mechanic in a time when most games push the player to actually engage with the combat in order to recharge their abilities (again, see Doom).
@VidSpot23532

I want to give you some honest feedback for your reviews. I am a huge fan of your long reviews for open world rpg games. It really seems like you dig deep into the game, you have fun doing it and that's great. However, you review EVERY game like if it wants to be an open world triple A title. Which is just not the case for games like Stray and Evil West. They want you to have 5-15 hours of fun and that's it. Those games make very clear what they want to be, they succeed in it and don't add any shady mircotransactions. Of course you can have your own opinion on everything but not recommending something because it doesn't fit your taste feels unfair.

Skill Up's review (and most of his reviews) speak from multiple perspectives that aren't just his own, and thats what makes them so enjoyable and agreeable. He tries to see what kind of person would enjoy something, and also provides input on whether he enjoyed something or not. It leaves room to have conversations about nuance in video game design and preference Luke tends to just base his entire review on his enjoyment alone, and then pass that off as how the game should be defined for someone stumbling upon his video. He may say/not realize that is the case, but that is how he speaks. This is why it is much more "I agree entirely with Luke" or "I could not disagree more with Luke" for most people. To be honest it doesn't exactly breed healthy discussion on enjoying media imo to speak this way, but everyone has their preferences on reviews which is up to them

Also, the possibility to use squad commands, added a bit of strategy in how you can position the team member to cover or push forward. It was not a perfect game by any means, but I don't think it is the perfect example of linearity. ... This might be an unpopular opinion but 10 hour games should be $20-$30 the only short game I’ve played recently that resonates with me, but also actually has a ton of replay value is cruelty squad, and I just feel empty after playing that and trying to find another game that scratches that itch.

10 hour games used to be the standard and in my opinion is fine for a new ip that's in a genre that doesn't really have mass appeal.

I tried with this game, I got a few chapters in but it just wasn’t for me and it’s a shame because I liked the concept of westerns and fantasy. I lost interest in it completely when I realised the boss fight in each chapter was the same and while I don’t mind a gameplay loop being repeated, i like that repeated loop with something like Mafia 3. I also think people are being incredibly harsh in the comments here.

Yeah people expect AAA with limited budgets to be doing what hundreds of millions of dollars bring. Overblown third person games with too many movies instead of gameplay :) . I much prefer AA even if they don't get it all right in every game. At least they don't waste millions on voice acting instead of gameplay. Games are meant to fun first and foremost and so many people forget that and would rather watch a movie from Sony disguised as a game.

I’d argue that the game being unremarkable is what makes it remarkable ironically. Not every game needs to be a masterpiece or take itself seriously. It’s pretty clear from the marketing that they just wanted to make a video game with nothing else attached to it. We used to get a ton of these double A filler game fodder that we could pick up between major releases. And as games get more expensive to make and longer to produce, I can actually respect a game like this. I know I’m not going to remember much about it a year from now and it probably won’t be on my game of the year list. It’s just a a fun double A filler title while I wait for something like Callisto Protocol. And that’s why I think it reminds so many people of the 360 era. We used to get these throwaway titles all the time. And I kind of miss em sometimes.

A fair assessment, I don't know if I will be getting this coz idk that I will be getting the nostalgia kick that others might, and I have too many other games I need to play that are more my thing. But this definitely looks like a fun little game that will hit with a certain audience.
@mandrews6282
@mandrews6282 8 ай бұрын
@@gman7497 that’s fair. If you happen to be on Playstation this is one of the ‘free’ monthly games so you could check it out there at no additional cost. Honestly it has a similar combat feel to essentially God of War mixed with Gears of War with a bit of brawler thrown in. Def worth a pick up if you’re looking for something to play. But if you are cautious with what you purchase or are choosey with what you spend time on, then this is not a must play or anything. It also doesn’t play like an older game. I just mean it’s an action heavy game with minimal cutscenes so it’s more akin to the 360 era of games where gameplay took precedent over story, and not the story heavy bohemoths we get these days.

I love when video games say they take 10 hours to be. I literally sit at a game sometimes 6 to 7 hours and then I look at how much I completed and it shows 12% 10% are you? I literally spent seven hours and it’s not like I was constantly dying up like that. Literally, I was going through the game pretty smoothly might’ve gotten stuck for about an hour maybe two but sometimes it takes me weeks to finish the game. These people are finishing it in a day or two I’m doing something wrong.
