I can’t believe the comments about Antonio and Madonna being better. This production and these 2 stars were on fire. Just saw a revival at townhall. What happened to star quality?? No one on broadway has any presence anymore. Ellen Greene in the encores little shop did. Nearly made the theater crumble. And the star of even Hansen was magnetic. Other than that I haven’t seen anything worth raving about in years.

Wow Mandy's brilliant. Those B flats are incredible. I think he makes it to a C. I could be wrong. What a voice though.

Staged with a simple but VERY effective concept. Hal Prince was brilliant in staging EVITA... Tim Rice's 'book' (or lack of one) was so fragmented and episodic that each number is staged in gimmicky concept, the same way old music videos told a story. And this was BEFORE MTV!

Then why say that the singer should be passionate when their singing about passionless love? But comparing bootleg video clips (I thank NewNickTahoe forsharing these gems with us) from c. 1979 to a movie seems a bit unfair for the obvious reason of the quality being drastically different. Besides without this version (and the World Premiere) there would be no movie version! Also, both Che and Eva won the Tony award for Best Leading Actress/Best Featured Actor in a musical for their "shouting".

In what way is the movie better he rewrote half the score because madonnas small small range couldnt fit the part.

I've watched the movie several times I think it's a good movie version, but looking at it lyrically it would not make sense to sing it passionately, she's only using these men to work her way up to the top. She is no way in love with any of the guys in this song. The OBC does a wonderful job with delivering all the humor through the sarcastic lines in the song such as the line you mentioned: "Our passion was just too intense to survive" which is immediately followed by "For God's sake get out!"

As I said you before Especially the way she and Antonio look at each other both singing in front of the hotel room "don't blame them, you're the same".

hell yeah, you're absolutaley right, they're just singing what AndrLWebber wrote, straight ahead, but besides, a young woman with passion, and a young man who's jealous of her (in a way), they do have passion in the words, you can give it as long as you want to give, as long as you do have passion. C'mon bro,the song itself contains the sentence "our passion was just too intense to survive",it's about kidding with love and people's cheap and insincere feelings. We all know what love is, don't we?

Watch Madonna's and Antonio Banderas' version. You'll see the passion in her voice, in her looks, in her dance moves. Way way way better. Especially the way she and Antonio look at each other both singing in front of the hotel room "don't blame them, you're the same". It's fantastic. You'll see I'm right when you watch it. These songs don't only mean shouting in a crazy way to me. The real art is passion, soul, like the paintings of Picasso. Blood, soul and tears.

Exactly. Of course it's sarcasm, we all are sure about that. Remember I've asked you in my previous comend that "we all know what love is don't we?" remember. I do know that it's not love. By the way hell yeah, the movie version is way way better. Listening and watching this versions people shouting in a crazy way just make me feel like sitting on a needle, and it's not comfortable, and gives you no joy.

horrible when you compare it with Madonna and Antonio Banderas version. Shouting loudly without passion and soul. yes it is exactly it. having a high range vocal, doesn't mean you sing a song beautifully, or you give your charisma and soul (if you have any) to the song you sing. I now that understand it perfectly.

You clearly don't understand who Evita is both as the character and the real person.
