I like them all but the 80 is the best for me and like the combo of the 80/87 nice mix. The great news is the 2000 reissues still sound good.

Serie II are my favorite, they sound a bit more mid/big than most 80s EVs. And I freaking love how they look !! I'm about to buy one, mint condition, it's in the US so shipping is a bit expensive (I'm in France) but I couldn't resist. You won't be disapointed !! Only bad side is they weigh a ton hahaha

87 is awesome! 2014 is a little bit harsh imo, but they are all good!! Have you ever compared the series ii and just normal(?) version you're using in this video?

This is great. I've also found this technique to be the most effective way so far to capture that distinctive tightness in the low end that defines EV speakers. I use a Shure Beta52a on the back of the cabinet, and on the front a SM57 pointing towards the center of the dust cap. Also, a condenser mic pointing at the cone. Really enjoyed this video, man. Thanx.

What do you think about EVM 12L Pro 300w (Black label& chassis). I have this one, but searching a old version of EVM 12L 200w.

I've also a 12L Pro and didn't find any difference with the 'classic' 200w version, maybe subtle tighter and bigger bass but I'm not even sure my brain isn't playing with me on that. They're pretty much the same speaker.

They still make this speaker today, it's called EVM12L Classic and you can find them almost everywhere. They're a bit expensive btw

Hey Man! one more question. do you have any idea how to date an EVM 12L? I have a few options to purchase and i want to make sure what is the year that it was manufactured

On the new ones you have the date printed on the EV box and probably somewhere on the cone but I don't know how to read them. On the old ones you usually have a line of what probably is the serial number and another line with just 3 numbers. This is the one, the first number is the year and other two are the week of the year the speaker was made. Example : 038 for 38th week of 1980.

No, he also used JBL in 15", maybe 10" too 😉 His 412 Dumble was loaded with EVM12Ls, maybe his Marshall too but I don't know.

Really would have gotten a lot more out of this if you'd been playing a Les Paul and something other than SRV style blues. While I do like that stuff, for getting the tone of a speaker I like a more direct rock and roll tone. Truth is I don't care for strats much at all.
