EVO 2018 Smash 4 Grand Finals: We need to have proper discussion

After witnessing the Smash community making the exact same mistake twice along with the most recent controversey, I simply couldn't just do nothing whilst everyone is going to actively try and sweep what happened at Evo 2018 under the imaginary rug. This video holds the discussion on what happened, why it happened and what the Smash community needs to do in order to prevent such colossal mistakes happening again for Smash Ultimate.
Overall I would say that I am fairly disappointed in both Captain Zack and Lima for acting as they did, along with the tournament organisers at Evo for not following through with the laid out rules that should have resulted in both players being disqualified on the spot due to popularity or favoritism.
Whether or not you're a big time content creator or a small nobody like me, if you truly care about smash then please make sure that this controversy doesn't disappear and that it stays as an open scar for all of us moving into ultimate and forwards. Please make your own videos discussing this. We will never truly learn from this as a community unless we do.

Thanks man :) I do agree that the editing could have been better. In truth this is the first time i've ever edited a video, i'll need to take care with audio levels in the future!

When people claim that you shouldn't "hate the players" I find that ridiculous in this scenario. I've seen it too many times, "you can't be rude to the players," or "they're getting death threats so take it easy." While I understand you can't harass them (even with that joke of a bayo taunt that he pulled off which was just miserable to watch) they still need to receive major flak for what they have done. Beyond just making a joke out of the entirety of the Smash community they also make a mockery of the top level of Smash 4. If an outside person sees this as a top level Smash player, people who are borderline narcissistic, nobody is going to want to support that. Doubly so if half of the crowd straight up leaves. When they look to buy and invest they look at the top and throughout the matches so when all energy disappears because of a single character it's a really bad sign. Personally I think there needs to be a good balance between the "git gud" mentality and the "scrub" mentality. So normally when you see a large group of people complaining, often they haven't learned how to "git gud" but when a large group of people continually complains, while bringing up valid points, there is obviously something wrong in the loop. Finally I just want to say, I hope Bayo apologists are happy. Happy with potentially damaging relations with Evo, and possibly other major companies that are looking at Smash to be taken more serious, including even companies like Disney and ESPN. This could be fatal for future Smash games. (feel free to let me know if I screwed up anywhere or I have a really obvious flaw in something, thx)

I completely agree with you in terms of how both Zack and Lima treated the Evo Grand Finals and the spirit of competition as a complete and utter joke. I also agree that it doesn't look good for those outside of the community either. I would say that you shouldn't put the blame on all Bayo apologists for what happened however. They can be partially blamed for killing the game, but they were not at fault for making a mockery of what happened at grand finals. That's entirely on Zack and Lima, it would not have happened if it was any other 2 Bayonetta mains :)

Jovinus I feel if there weren't as many apologists and the opinions weren't being shoved down then we might've seen Bayo been balanced. That being said I don't think she belongs in the game at all. It takes so little time to learn and get good with her due to her incredibly easy combos so balancing her can be considerably difficult

Indeed. I feel like she will always be a problem character no matter how good she is. The only way to really tell is to see what she's like within the first 6 months of the game's realease. I expect full debate over the banning of her again come by June 2019. Let's hope that the big TO's make the correct choice this time.
