Hey Adam, that is correct. That gate you mentioned does connect to hwy 39 that decent down to Azusa, the road was starting to give way so they closed. I live in Azusa I have friends ride up in bicycles up hwy 2 and decent down through hwy 39 to go back to La Cañada, is about 90-100 miles cricle trip with a gain elevation of close to 11k. That connection between Angel Crest Highway and Highway 39 has been closed for years. It used to be open but there was so many landslides in that area of the road that isn’t able to be driven on anymore. The county doesn’t prioritize fixing it because it’s not a main heavy traffic highway. It’s not open right now because quarantine but I think Glendora Mountain Road is one of the best driving roads ever. It’s slightly east of the start of Highway 39 of you ever get the chance to drive it Adam. It’s cool seeing you drive in the same spots I do.
