Awesome Dave! As I mentioned in the previous video. Mine ran great! 11x5 prop and plenty of power or the Edge 540 (4.3lbs) Pulled it out from hover quick. Lots of people had issues mainly for using the wrong spec glow plug.

You sound a lot like I do. I don't know what day or date it is sometimes. The fringe benefits of being retired in my extremely lucky and blessed situation. Thank you for the videos.

Hey David, I'm a nitro engine lover myself and I agree with you about those evolution engines and just never cared about them too much. I bet the control issues that the previous owner had were more likely the engine not having enough power to push the plane above stall speed. After your masterful tuning, it came "alive" and most likely would've pushed that P51 well, (personally I would rather have a 60 size engine in a plane like that and size) I enjoyed the video, thanks for posting.

Pulling the baffle and replacing the prop let her get on the pipe good and proper! It sounded like a weed eater before, now she's got the beans!

All it is funky looking ASP engine

True. My experience with ASP engines has been very good. Just not sure if this is a true ABC engine as the ASP’s were.

I think they were both built in the same factory. When ASP and Magnum closed up shop, so did Evolution.
@dmrcflyr28 күн бұрын
Being made in the same factory really does not mean much. All products are made to different specifications, different castings, etc. About the only thing that might be the same or close is the piston/sleeve combination.

I drilled the holes in the baffle plate bigger to fix my stalling problems.

I prefer to simply remove the power and sound restricting device altogether.

David I had an evolution 60NX and it ran really hard. They recommend an evolution superplug which is effectively an O.S. Type F four stroke plug. As you I said it’s to pussify the tuning. It would be great if you could try it with an OS four stroke plug. Great video and I concur the world doesn’t work on instant gratification. Anything worthwhile requires sacrifice.

About spit out my drink when I heard you say pussify the first time. Lol. I have seen the limits that they put on control surfaces on planes (Spektrum SAFE system)... Had no idea they tried to put similar limits on glow engines. Yeah after the baffle and the 2 bladed prop it sounded pretty damn good.

David, I race Q500 424 with the same engine. If you use a 9x6 APC prop and 15% glow fuel, it will go up to 15.500 rpm. It is not my first choice for the engine, but it's one of the few engines approved for 424 Q500 pylon racing.

Well I definitely plan on wringing this engine out and see what it can take.

Absolutely agree with your views @ 13:00. People just want every bit of gratification instantly these days; patience is not a word that appears in many people's dictionary these days - they have to look it up. Funny thing how the exhaust immediately came loose when you properly tuned the high-speed needle for max rpm on the 10% bonus run. Sort of "been there done that" myself as well :) In the end this does seem like a nice engine too, never really gave Evolution engines much thought at all... I've always said "take the freakin baffles out", at least for 2-strokes. This simple move can literally transform them. Regards Harry

Suddenly sprung to life when you took that baffle out .From a sluggish sloppy unresponsive engine , to quite a decent glow engine .

In the end a nice run. Absolutely share your opinion about the "training kit". Thanks for sharing.

Training wheels on engines was the first step to most planes in that size range being foam and electric.
