I know what you're talking about. It was released as "Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis" in 2001. In 2011 Bohemia Interactive re-released the game under the title ARMA: Cold War Assault. I suggested a second date because the first release had nothing to do with the name of Arma.

Ofp Cwc was the first open world game I’ve played. And its still in my laptop today with countless self made editor missions. The happiness of searching addons and making editor mission never instead by any other arma versions.

damn I remember spending hours and hours playing ArmA when it came out in 2006, I was a huge fan of Operation Flashpoint so when ArmA came out I couldn't believe how advanced it was compared to OFP, I had so much fun with the editor, recreating missions out of war movies, damn it was so fun back then...

ArmA 2: British Armed Forces, ArmA 2: Private Military Company and ArmA 2: Army of the Czech Republic-DLCs for ArmA 2 that add factions and mini campaigns. ArmA: Cold War Assault- Re release of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis under the ArmA name after re-securing the rights from Codemasters. ARMA 2 was the greatest game ever until DayZ came out and destroyed the community. Part of what made it amazing was the server's were filled with fellow Airman, Soldier's, Sailors, and Marines. Then DayZ started and the server's were overflowing with braindead children running around acting like they were SEAL Team 6 when the game is centered around Marines.
