The thing about early-mid 2000s superhero movies is that they always got the basics right about the characters, Spiderman trilogy, Batman trilogy, Superman returns, Hulk etc. Creates sort of a timeless-otherworldly vibe, that's absent in the more recent "relatable" brand of superhero movies viz. MCU phase 4.

One of the scariest and coolest abilities that made the Hulk for me was the ability of the cells to massively mutate and get stronger in response to anger and damage, making the hulk get bigger and stronger and even angrier to the point of raw and pure adrenaline fueled rage... I feel like that's what the Hulk is and should be, and i think trying to make him likeable and giving him a personality takes away from the character itself. To me, the Hulk shouldn't have control, let alone a personality, Hulk is rage and pure destruction..

You don't read Hulk comics apparently. By Edward Norton's own mouth, he re-wrote The Incredible Hulk movie to be closer to the 70s TV Series, which like his movie, is waaaaay away from the Comics lore. The 2003 Hulk Movie was the one closest to the Comics, from Bruce Banner being repressed emotionally due to the trauma in his childhood cause by the abuse his father did, basically developing a double personality (multiple personalities in the comics in time, meaning different Hulks). To his genetic mutation being the reason that he survived the Gamma Radiation exposure, which in the accident he rescues someone from it and is caught in the blast. Also in the 2003 film, Hulk becomes bigger and stronger the angrier he gets, growing indeed to around 15ft. He swings tanks like toys in the 2003 movie, while Norton Hulk has difficulties flipping a Hummer. So yeah, you are definitely confusing the comics with the 70s TV series, and they are worlds different and apart.

What I don't like about MCU Hulk is that they never properly portrayed and emphasized that Hulk was Banner's coping mechanism from childhood and psychological traumas. The gamma ray accident only gave Hulk a physical body, but Hulk has always existed in Banner's head as a split personality. This is also why She-Hulk and other "hulk" characters have better control over hulking out. It's not only because of catcalling or being a woman that gave her control over anger. It's for the same reason the Abomination is just Blonsky on crack. They are only dealing with the effects of the experiment/serum or whatever while Banner has other issues and is in need of therapy. And that is also why Hulk is considered a different character than Banner, compared to other "hulk" characters in Marvel. I hope Hulk(personality) comes back to the MCU.

I watched 2003, 2008 and 1977 versions of the Hulk as a kid, and as a teenager I watched the MCU Hulk. To be honest, I like all versions of him. I might be biased, but all of them are good in their own ways to me.

2003 Hulk was undisputedly the best movie version - despite them changing the lore of his father a bit with him being turned into absorbing man but I kind of understand why they did it to make the story more emotionally charged. I never understood the criticism of him being too green - he's literally the embodiment of gamma radiation. He is a force of nature. His mannerisms in that movie are so cathartic. He truly feels like an unhinged beast of absolute rage.

My earliest introduction to the Hulk in live-action was the 1978 version, which still holds a special place in my heart, but I also have very fond memories of watching the MCU version on the big screen with my father and siblings between 2012 and 2019. 🥰 Heck, I actually kind of love each version of the character for how unique they all are. I will always have a warm spot in my heart for the first legitimate Hulk movie with Bana. I wish they would have continued with the premise of the Hulk getting larger when shot at. That was pretty cool. Might have come in handy when he went up against Thanos. The final Hulk is the worst. It was the transformations that really made Hulk real....going to miss that. Oh well...can always go back and watch them over....and I do !!
