I have doubt that in brettan woods system why they have changed all trasactions to dollar , there are other countries like Indian , great britain. And britain has contains highest amt of gold reserves at that time. they can take pounds as the medium?

The decision to use the US dollar as the main currency in the Bretton Woods system was based on several factors. Firstly, the United States was the largest economy and had emerged as a leading industrial and military power after World War II. It had a stable and well-developed financial system, backed by significant gold reserves. Secondly, the US dollar was already being used as an international currency in many transactions before the Bretton Woods conference. It was widely accepted and trusted, making it easier to establish it as the primary currency for international trade and finance. Thirdly, there was a concern about the convertibility of currencies. The British pound, for example, had experienced difficulties in maintaining its value and convertibility due to the economic challenges it faced after the war. The US dollar was considered more stable and reliable for global transactions. Finally, the Bretton Woods system aimed to promote economic stability and avoid currency fluctuations that could hinder trade and investments. By tying currencies to the US dollar and the dollar to gold, the system attempted to provide stability and certainty in international financial transactions.
