It's honestly kinda of interesting seeing that how the game looked in 2011 largely hasn't changed in 12 years - the UI is all the same, textures increased and changed but the base hasn't changed a bit! It's about time for a new take I'd say (:

I first played in December 2011 at my parents house for Christmas holidays. It was so much harder to do basic things back then. Getting into orbit felt like a real achievement. In all the years I played it, I never left the Kerbin/Mun/Minimus - got distracted building modular space stations, satellite constellations and driving rovers around the mun/minimus. Might have to pick it up again and go for the Duna big shot.

Wow, well done! A great overview to an amazing journey from a simplistic indie game to a fully-fledged space simulator! The value of KSP as an educational and science outreach program cannot be understated. It did what Orbiter couldn't do: make even casual people enjoy spaceflight on their computer. I still remember the early days of trying to fly through the soup that was Kerbins atmosphere back then lol For people who went a bit deeper into what KSP could provide, however, that tribute to the modding community seemed like the most important part. Especially the parts you didn't even show: all the engineering, control, aerodynamics, overhaul, backend, and tech improvement mods, some of which fundamentally change how KSP can be played, by massively expanding what the game is about, and what it can support (like all the visual and part mods). KSP is one of those games where the support of modders was just as substantial to its success as the game developers themselves, and it really shows. Like the game, the modding scene also had its rich history, with some very important mods coming and going.
@TDChannelKSP
@TDChannelKSP Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. KSP is an incredible tool and resource for getting people hyped about space, or just understanding orbital mechanics! Yeah, KSP has seen a tremendous amount of change under the hood. Honestly, the history of mods - from good old Sunday Punch and C7 aerospace parts pack to KWRocketry and Kethane, it could make up an entire video. Old mod versions are a bit trickier to hunt for with dead forum links and dead download sites :(

Really sad that both KSPs have ceased development, one purposefully and the other due to extremely poor management. Thankfully we have mods and creativity still!

I started playing around 0.18 and I had no clue how huge KSP would have gotten, for me and for others. When I started playing, I was still naive to orbital mechanics, and thought orbit just meant getting far enough out of the atmosphere (orbital physics weren't exactly part of my secondary schooling). Over the next five years, my entire understanding of physics and motion would shift radically and enable me to see and understand the world around me with a new intuition about how air resistance, thermodynamics, gravity, etc. affect things. I spent $30 on it and in return got well over 800 hours from that game, as well as a pretty effective crash course (literally) into physics, a topic which was previously nearly incomprehensible to me even in school. Money well spent! This record of KSP's timeline really charts a pretty sentimental experience in my life that has affected my identity and skills in a weirdly unexpected way for a video game about little green men blowing themselves up because you put the CoM behind the CoL/CoD, or just ballsed up your staging. Hell, it single-handedly changed Scott Manley's whole life and made him a pretty influential gaming/science education content creator. P.S. Props for using the diggy diggy hole song :3

Nice video. I joined ksp in 2016, in 2017 i'll found some modes to be more realistic. Today installed mods are fighting with others to allocate memory. Excited for ksp2 trajectory.

It was such ride but now we get to relive the past but better in ksp2. This was such a well made video and the end was just thenominal every beat with the engine got me, so let's start a new and ride this coaster one more time.

I remember a good portion of these updates. With everything that you can do on this wonderful game, it’s always good to look back upon earlier times when it was way, way more simpler than now.

This is just to say that essentially 4 people in one year did more work in their garage than what has been done in 4 years for KSP2 with a huge team, big budget and way higher (and I'd say crazy) selling price.

i started at 1.11 its amazing how the game is kept alive by these people that sacrifice their time, sweat and tears to make some mods its truly a marvel to look at even if its like a 1000 people it still is good with the potential shown in the mods

I started playing about a week or 2 before 0.12. I've put easily 2000 hours into it over the years. Gave it a bit of a rest while it looked like KSP 2 was going to be the new hotness. I wanted to have a break and come back when KSP 2 was a full release. But upon learning of it's death, I've come back to KSP with about 7000 mods to make it everything I wanted from KSP2. Best game ever.
