In this video, I bring to you the evolution of Kung Lao's most popular move, the Hat throw, also known as Hat Toss, since its first appearance in MK II (1993) until MK11. I look at the elements of gameplay and storyline to bring to you the development of this influential character in the last few years.

What I find interesting is how the hat gets back on his head. The 2d graphics could draw in the hat magically appearing, but the early days of 3d couldn't handle it. It either just reappeared on his head or never left it. It wasn't until MK9 (I think) that the graphics were able the recreate the magical effect.

Might as well use Kung Lao for all of MK2 since it seems to make him as cheap as the AI! Also, he doesn’t remove hit hat in either MK2, 3, or 4. Instead it’s a new sprite that comes in from the side of the screen and returns to the top corner.
