Aura Metropolis doesn't actually look like that on console. Dolphin has some visual glitches on that track. Other than that, I hope you all enjoy the Evolution of Custom Tracks for Mario Kart Wii!

Also, I’ve noticed errors in the description, and the video. In the video, the author of Wario’s Lair is “thondam”, not “thondan”. The music title for Disco Fever is “Miror B. Battle”, not “Mirror”. And the music for Yoshi’s Lagoon is from “Mario Hoops 3 on 3”, not “Sonic Hoops 3 on 3”. Still understood though

@@lol-ih1tl I have a feeling that MK8 Custom Tracks and/or it's Hacking Community won't be NEARLY as popular and huge as in MKW^^
@LuigiStory47403 жыл бұрын
@@lol-ih1tl But MKDS did that as well (with it's rainbow road), and some CT Creators for MKW, who have remake MKDS's RR tried the Loop and Corkscrew. Idk if it succeeded because I haven't played them yet, but I think one Version did. Also Wii U Tracks are also being made for MKW as CTs^^ I'm either way a much bigger Fan of MKW and it's CTs (maybe partly because I'm a Part of them myself), because I just love MKW^^

back in the day, I made the first Ribbon Road custom track and I was also the designer for the Sunset Ridge and DK Jungle Tour tracks. Bigoto and Vulcanus (as well as Mind) took my designs and made them real. Hard to believe this was over 10 years ago. Might be cool to get back into it. I have a few interesting ideas for tracks that never saw the light of day.

It's absolutely insane how far CTs have come, like, nowadays, they look better than Nintendo's own MKWII courses. Also crazy how good Halogen Highway still looks, good art direction does wonders to mask the limitations of its time.
@SamRegan6103 жыл бұрын
One thing that track designers have gotten much better at over the years is making the courses easy to understand. A lot of older courses feel like you wouldn't be able to complete a lap easily unless you knew the layout 100%, and even then it was uncertain. Fungal Jungle is easily the best designed track on this list because throughout the entire track, you can see what's in front of you. Almost every other track on this list has at least one blind spot, some have many. Banked turns and U-shaped tracks can help this, though I understand that's not feasible in every theme. The newer ones are much better than the older ones, but most custom tracks are not at the same level as Nintendo's original tracks design-wise (visuals are a different story though)

So apparently Mario Kart Wii turned thirteen years old yesterday. THIRTEEN. That's gotta account for something, right? Some other stats that might make you feel old: -Mario Kart as a whole turns 30 next year -Mario Kart 7 will be ten years old in December -The last time an original new Rainbow Road came out was in May of 2014 (MK8 Wii U) -The old drifting style hasn't been seen in a Mario Kart game in over 15 years now (MKDS)

@@lol-ih1tl I don't care. I'm not the biggest fan of the gliding ramps and I also don't really care about the underwater physics. Both are nice, but they aren't something where I would say that I desperatly need it in a Mario Kart game. Track design can be just as awesome without them. MKDS and MKWii are the perfect examples for that. I agree it kind of sucks for retro tracks but I don't really care because I can just play them in other Mario Kart games. And other then those things MKWii is pretty much perfect for creating CTs. There are so many incredible CTs like New Moon Manor or Quacking Mad Cliffs.

Holy fuck I hate that blur effect they put on the newer tracks. Such an eyesore. The newer tracks are also often way too overshaded. Instead of putting so much time into mimicking Nintendo tracks (that often makes it worse), I want real creativity like Halogen Highway back. Not to mention the fact that everyone seems so hyperfocused on ports nowadays. 2012-2014 was the golden era for CTs imo. Or to be more specific, pre-Atlas/Wexos

CTs can really be awesome and can also really be meh. There is like no in between. But one thing that’s seem to stay true when they are meh is that they will either be, or a mix of: scaled to large/small, way too open, lots of 90 degree turns, too long, too many mechanics or too little, too copy paste, etc.

2016-2018 is probably the era I remember the most fondly. CTs in current year are at their peak in terms of visuals and accessibility but pretty mediocre in terms of creativity. I feel like they mimic Nintendo's tracks almost to a fault where they focus too much on casual players and most shortcuts are just generic grass cuts, assuming they even have shortcuts. In terms of structure, most of them play like SNES tracks. Also in terms of theming, I feel like the majority of them are just a dirt path through a grassy green field and if they try to include a secondary them, most of it is outside the track and you don't interact with any of it. For example you have the track that's themed after music block notes, but you never once actually bounce on the music blocks or fungle jungle which barely does anything with the "fungle" aspect incorporated into its track design outside of being tree reskins.
