Had to go to Wikipedia to see if I was wrong to classify as I lay dying, killswitch and all the other bands that play in dropped tuning with open E string 5-7-8 riffs as metalcore.

Finally someone who lists the "essential" Metalcore bands from start to finish! Because when Metalcore is mentioned, polished Metalcore bands such as Architects, Wage War, Motionless In White usually come to mind. The golden years of Metalcore are the late 90s and early 2000s. Afterwards, similar bands with high quality productions emerged. In this list, "Evolution" can only be explained in terms of recording quality. Because the bands at the end of the video do nothing but copy old Metalcore bands.

Metallic Hardcore is a type of Post-Hardcore (PROVE ME WRONG) and Post-Hardcore sounds NOTHING like Hardcore. Melodic Metalcore is a type of "Post-Metalcore" which doesn't have to sound like original Metalcore. That's the way I see it at least

@@lil8iTcH i don't think that metalcore is a type of post-hardcore, because the therm is most of the time associated with hardcore kids going experimental without taking metallic influence. And the main influences for the creation of metalcore were definitely the crossover thrash scene, bands from NYC like Madball, Biohazard, Cro-mags playing a more groovy and thrashy style of crossover. And most of the time those bands werent taking influences from PHC at all (fugazi, drive like jehu, etc) but taking from other styles of metal like thrash, groove metal and death metal

This is just me; but I feel like in some ways Hardcore and Metalcore are like siblings except one of them is just a little bit heavier with more breakdowns. Such as with the new hardcore bands(in my opinion) such as Boundaries, 156 Silence and Knocked Loose. Not to say they can’t have that metalcore sound I just grew up with another timeline of metalcore(BMTH Bring Me The Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada) so would it be considered hardcore in some ways or should it all be pushed into one big pool of metalcore from different timelines. This is been on my mind for a while especially when you think of it in a sibling perspective. Metalcore could be the older brother, Hardcore is like the middle child and Punk could be the little brother and so on and so forth(when it comes to screaming. With Screamo and Post-Hardcore being the younger ones with less screaming.)

There was a new wave of american heavy metal music in 90s (pantera, machine head, fear factory, etc). Evolution of those bands in 94-95 (from mid to fast tempo guitar play with chuggy riffs/breakdowns) brought to a life new bands with revival swedish melodeath style influence (mostly at the gates, but also edge of sanity, unanimated, inflames, dark tranquility, etc) with some fashionable emo treats from '00.

From a more hardcore perspective; 1st wave metalcore was heavily influenced by New York Hardcore such as Judge, Agnostic Front and Cro-Mags, but the first band to take that NYHC sound and blend even more metal in is Integrity (the first band in this video) as well as Ringworm (both originally from Cleveland, OH). But it wasn't until Earth Crisis came out with the Firestorm EP in 1993 that the more metallic sound took over hardcore in a big way. From that point so many bands came out of the hardcore scene that incorporated way more metal elements. 1st wave metalcore (or metallic hardcore) also had a lot of crossover with beatdown hardcore (a style originating in New York in the late 80's), which features a much groovier sound compared to what people traditionally call hardcore punk (Outburst, Neglect, and especially Bulldoze). Beatdown hardcore was also influential in the sense that it placed more emphasis on the breakdown.

@@DimaNSK-vy4br ahahah poser lol. Sure bro trivium aint metalcore cuz thery are more metal than hardcore. The thing is metalcore is a spectrum. Its like mixing colors, if u add more of one than the other its gonna show. So metallic hardcore is just a flavor of metalcore, but if u so dearly want the label all for yourself (and the trve core kids) take it. But it won't make reality any different. Trivium is recognized as metalcore (sum records are more metalcore than others) and thats fact and so is Earth Crisis, both can be in the same spectrum as they are. And also gate keeping is the cringest thing bro.

You're conflating metallic hardcore /crossover and metalcore, the former grew out of HC punk, the latter out of nu-metal. While many modern bands may incorporate both of these along with other influences the two styles have continued to evolve down separate paths with metalcore in particular becoming much more commercial. Despite what generalist KZbinrs and over zealous Wikipedia editors may tell you, most people I know who listen to /play metal influenced hardcore would be horrified to hear it called metalcore... Earth Crisis and Converge are a universe away from Killswitch Engage and Bring Me The Horizon. The only good thing to come out of lumping the two styles together is that someone who listens to Black Veil Brides [🤣] might find their way to Integrity or Rolo Tomassi and discover a scene full of interesting, experimental and politically charged music made by bands who operate on their own terms.

This ain't metalcore, most of this is hardcore or metallic hardcore. The fact that you spanned over twenty years and showed almost zero evolution probably suggests you have a very limited idea if what metalcore is, to the point where you arguably don't actually fully grasp what it is. Off the top of my head only two of these bands can really be considered 'metalcore' and they're still far more metallic hardcore than straight up metalcore (Earth Crisis and Architects). Stampin Ground, Merauder, It Dies Today, If Hope Dies, God Forbid, Shadows Fall, KSE, Still Remains, 18 Visions, Bleeding Through, Misery Signals, Throwdown, AILD, Darkest Hour, I Killed The Prom Queen, early Parkway Drive... That's metalcore. This video is hardcore, maybe metallic hardcore at a push.

This isn't the evolution of metalcore at all LOL, this is just a list of metalcore bands closer to the hardcore side that you like. Many of them sound alike with no evolution in their sound, this is all one style of metalcore. For a real evolution video you shouldve included melodic metalcore to crabcore to melodic hardcore, to djentcore, to numetalcore, and back to the revival core type of sound that's a modern version of the style yo clearly like most.

@@Lattrodon Metalcore as a genre had to start somewhere. And most would agree that it's when hardcore bands started using elements of metal, which many of these bands display in their discographies. They're not completely different to metalcore because they started the bloody thing. It's bands like Sleep Token and Bad Omens that call themselves 'metalcore' that are absolutely not in the same genre at all.
