It’s pretty easily to make things look amazing, even from the early 2000s, with really simple lighting, a ton of polygons, simple textures, sharp shadows, all on a single model with nothing moving, even the camera barely moving. Think about it, not even a floor is shown. And that thing is barely getting 60fps. If it’s getting more, they probsbly have several of the same graphics card in the same pc

A game that was already 3 years old when the card came out and can be run in 4k 60fps by much older cards due to great optimization so using it for a benchmarch/tech demo doesn't make much sense. Shoulda shown a 4k benchmark of tomb raider to show off the 1080ti's power.

GeForce 2 was my first accelerated 3D card. Those were the days. It was a huge jump and it was very exciting. There has been nothing as significant in graphics development since. The best games were from these days, as well.

The head is just bump mapping though. It's a relatively simple technique to fake having higher photorealistic details than the hardware can actually do. I think a lot of the tech demos are intended to showcase the new technique of the day (e.g. foliage, hair, water, bump mapping), rather than the best graphic that the hardware can actually do.

I think some of these tech demos are mainly intended to show the new techniques of the time. Foliage, fire, hair, water, bump mapping, etc. They don't necessarily show the best possible graphic that the card can do.

I still have my 3 8800GTX’s from my old AlienWare A51 Liquid Cooled swiftech machine. Man I thought I was hot shit back then lol. You don’t want to know what they charged for those back then... also they were heavy ass machines. But to have 3 or even quad SLI was like whoa man you’re really into this shit! Then I got a HP stealth... one of the coolest cases ever and that one had quad GTX 480’s and it ran really hot... had to run two power supplies back then to do it right.... thank god for Seasonic... they were the best back then. Now I just run dual Titans and 2080ti’s in most machines around the house since SLI doesn’t scale past two unless u do some fancy workstation tricks with hardware. It’s been a fun ride. Left team green when “eyefinity” and “crossfire” came out cause I really wanted to game across 3 large format 55” 1080p tv’s with a gaming mode that didn’t have input lag. That was a pain cause the cards were 6970’s and 6880’s back then and those were so loud and hot until MSI TWIN FROZR’s came out. Those were cool and then it was time to jump back when Nvidia finally gave us what we wanted... less 3D and more surround gaming. That went from all the series from 580’s, 680’s 780ti’s, 980ti’s and then my fav the 1080ti’s and Titans. Never had to get the Volta cuz right about that time I had gotten word about the 2080’s coming. Now just waiting for whatever the new Titan will be and I’ll jump to those for sure. Finally went down to one machine with the large 4K TV’s with a gaming mode and now running triple 34” curved LG 144HZ monitors in vertical mode so I can see up really well and not just wide.... I hated staring just at the feet of bosses in MMO’s. Now much older I am more focused on my daughter’s machines since I passed the torch to them to play. They’re now 11/13 and definitely have the best machines if anyone their age that I know of.... even though you don’t need hardcore equipment to run StarStableOnline and Roblox lol but that’s not the point.... still gotta have rocking liquid cooled rigs that can handle anything. Big focus nowadays is going full capability while staying cool down in the mini-ITX formfactor in less than shoebox space... I’m getting close and got one small enough using gigabyte’s little square box that bolts to the vesa mounts in the back of one of the monitors. It’s been a fun ride with Nvidia all these years that’s for sure :)
