I actually find it a little bit funny that Rocky Wrenches are the ones which generally and most closely resemble real-life moles compared to the actual Monty Moles, which in turn appear to more closely resemble gophers than anything else.

Originally they were meant to be mole-like turtles. They do kinda look like softshelled turtles

@omegavladosovich6757 Oh, that detail simply must have crossed my mind. And you’re right. They do somewhat resemble soft-shelled turtles as well, although they still look a little bit more mammalian than reptilian, I guess.

My HC is that Rocky Wrenches are a subspecies of Monty Moles who expertise on vehicles just like Hammer Bros and Magikoopas are variants of regular koopas. Maybe due to Bowser's growing Navy they started hiring regular Monty Moles.

@@koopakid4239 They aren’t though? Besides their attack pattern, they are two completely unrelated enemies that are only vaguely similar at best (especially since Rocky Wrench is related to Monty Mole and SMG Monty is related to the Undergrunt species).
