The older romance animes from the 1990s-2000s are *the best* imo, and progressively aren't _so good._ Not saying the future ones are bad, but- Classics are just 💋👌✨always in the heart.

That really is the peak of shoujo romance. Nowadays there are so few manga adaptations so like the shoujo anime scene is really small. The manga these days tho are really good - it’s sad because there are so many shoujo manga hits that do just as well as shounen and are never adapted into anime. Ugh makes so sad for shoujo lovers!!

@@theystolemycrabs6717 for sure! I’ll try to diversify my recs so you get a bit of everything! Honey lemon soda (super duper popular - very pretty art and cute school life story) Black bird (darker tones - a lot more spice, but also very cute supernatural romance) A sign of affection (a hearing impaired mc! Super nice art and very wholesome romance) Kare Kano (a classic shoujo - two flawed mc growing up - sort of a coming of age romance) Mairimashita Senpai (cute school life shoujo! It’s really realistic and no unnecessary drama) QQ Sweeper (this is an action! Still has romance, but it has other themes - cleaning plays an interesting role in the story) Lovesick Ellie (lmaooo this is a romcom through and through! The mc is relatable as hell - it’s so wholesome) Dengeki Daisy (this one is really cool because we don’t know the whole story until the end - the progressive reveal is refreshing!) Red river (historical romance - I literally love this one so much! Shinohara chie is a genius and I recommend any of her works) Namaikizakari (school romance - we have an apathetic and cold fl and a clingy almost equally apathetic (😂?) ml! It’s a unique dynamic! ) Usotsuki rhetoric (mystery historic manga! Fl can read minds and because of that she’s struggled a lot in life - not as much romance, but it’s a still one of my favs) Uruwashi no Yoi no tsuki (I actually haven’t read much of this, but the art is gorgeous - the fl sort of struggles with coming across as more masculine and she feels limited by her “prince like” features) Beniiro Hero (had to include a sports shoujo! Basically haikyu w a female main character - she struggles through the game, but also she struggles with the limits her family put on her - they don’t support her playing volleyball) Power! (Lmao it’s a genderbender, sports comedy! Basically the fl dresses as a boy and she plays basketball - it’s so fucking hilarious it’s crazy!) W-Juliet (this was my favourite manga for the longest time - another genderbender but it’s a boy having to dress as a girl because his family does not support his acting career - it’s complicated to explain but it’s a super wholesome romance!) I apologize for typos and rambling - it’s 2am and I had a lot of fun compiling this list! Hope it helps!

@RandomPasserby OnTheInternet Kare Kano manga is so wild. Mangaka included guns and revenge plots. (SPOILERS FOR ENDING) Asaba Hideaki is my fav character (waving Niina Junpei banner here). But in manga his destiny is....I don't want to believe in such destiny. It's like Masami Tsuda don't want to release him for good. Asapin was with the couple from the start, but didn't get enough time to really feel like family for them. But in the end he will live with Yukino and Souchiro 'till death will separate all of them. Somewhere near the end Masami Tsuda laments on his loneliness and wishes best out of the best girlfriend for him. It became gross really fast, 'cause mangaka hints on FREACKING DAUGHTER OF SOUICHI. I hate this destiny, but I believe in Bambi supremacy. GO, TEAM BAMBI!!! Overall, manga is wild, but not a masterpiece. Though I awe the Gainax anime ver.

Or the anime that were stopped even before the best parts of the stories were covered like Kamisama Hajimemashita, Skip beat, Akatsuki no yona, ao haru ride, sukitte li na yo, maid sama and etc The best things about these mangas are they have great characters with memorable moments, doesn't rely on fanservice, have MCs that are strong, independent, smart and also have steadily progressing love story and relationship building with each other and other characters. The Plots are not so typical/cliche either. It is sad to know that shoujo mangas are often ignored

I remember watching this show in my Nintendo 3DS and how I was so excited at middle school during class for night time to arrive so I can watch the next epsiodes. So the intro gives me so much nostalgia already it's only been a decade. I miss those times

Kimi Ni Todoke being the only entertainment to have portrayed what pure and real love is🥺
@haryantimuda9842 жыл бұрын
Ore Monogatari is also pure though. How Rinko see through what's inside Takeo and fall in love with him is pure love. How Takeo grow to be more confident with himself after he learn that there's someone out there who love him without seeing his physical appearance is totally pure too. Also how Suna show that a real friends stick to protect and encourage his friend is also pure too. I love Kimi Ni Todoke but to say that it's the only show that potray what a pure and real love is kind of not true.

Disagree on that, I don't find shojos superior in any way quite the opposite. They are so naive and infantile I couldn't stand them as a teen even, there are some good ones obviously, there are always exceptions but for me and many other people that sugary naivety is what brings the genre down so we just don't bother with it Alatsuki no Yona is literally the only shoujo I can think of of the top of my head that I actually liked, I'm sure there were more but not that memorable to me I guess

Candy Candy, Magic Knight Rayearth, CardCaptorSakura, Miracle Girls, Mew Mew, Mermaid Melody... amazing works 😍🌟 so nostalgic
Damn, the 80s really brought their A game! It definitely feels like that's where the envelope started to be pushed just a bit (after the 60s and slightly better 70s). It's pretty clear that that push was what brought the 90s crashing in like thunder - bringing fighting heroines, gorgeous magical girl sequences, and plot and storylines that would make the history books of shoujo. I was born in 90 and got hooked on Dragonball in 94. As much as I detested "girly" things though, in secret, I can recall watching Sailor Moon and being absolutely entranced. Even though I was nothing like those characters, the feeling it anyways left me with made me feel like I could take on anything. I felt cool and pretty and confident, even if only inside where I'd let no one else see. Looking back on the 2000s shoujo, I feel it perfectly captures my memories of being a teenager. Fruits Basket (and later its remake) was some of the best anime possibly ever created (impo), reaching past it's shoujo roots and ensnaring fans of all sorts of other genres with it. Bokura ga Ita and Lovely Complex were my last push before reaching "adulthood." The next decade was kinda hit or miss. Stuff like Maid-sama didn't even feel like shoujo. It felt like it was more harem-y disguised as shoujo? I never got the feeling that girls were the primary audience for stuff like that. But then there were others like Say I Love You and My Love Story that just HIT. And don't even get me started on Orange... similar to Fruits Basket, I felt that it transcended the shoujo genre in a way that invited fans of all backgrounds in to enjoy (and hurt). I'm a little surprised and bummed that Ouran High School Host Club isn't on here, nor Anohana (or Lucky Star??). Those were definitely on another level. 😌👌🏻 Today, shoujo isn't something I feel embarrassed to admit I enjoy. Thank you for making this video. It was fun and fascinating to watch how the genre has transformed over time.

Those are the ones I know (but I didn‘t watch them all, I just know they exist. And those are probably just the named from germany or another country bc I watched them mostly in german, english or japanese (with english subtitle) or completely wrong names): Lady Oscar, Sailor Moon, Mila Superstar (Attaku no 1 or something like that), Wedding Peach, Kamikaze Jeanne, Tokyo Mew Mew (💖💖💖💖🥰), Fruits Basket, Card Captor Sakura, Mermaid Melody. I probably forgot something, and I really know not that many of them (animes in germany - they‘re sometimes hard to get, especially the ones you‘d like to watch 😐). Idk why, but I really like the ones from the 1990s to 2015… And I think the art style most changed in the 2000s.
