Carla Fracci really PERFORMS, keeping tje audience in mind at all times and smiling. A lot of layer dancers forget to smile.

I appreciate a lot you put sources of the video, it's not so often done...

Gelsey as always is exquisite, in a class by herself!

Carla Fracci was so impressive dancing at concert tempo. Marienela is so expressive (like most Royal Ballet ballerinas). Seeing Gelsey was a true joy as she was my coach when I danced Balanchine’s works (I’m Bolshoi trained and work mainly for companies associated with the theatre). Did you know that GK had several surgeries to transform herself into the “perfect” ballerina, including broken foot bones to increase her arches? If you haven’t yet you must read her autobiography “Dancing on My Grave”. Thank you for this and all your videos.🇧🇷🇵🇹🩰

Wow! My sister danced under Balanchine w the NYC ballet. Thanks for the book recommendation! I'll buy it right now! There are so many injuries caused by ballet... and I didn't know people had surgeries to enhance their dancing, but I understand why they would. Congratulations on your career! You should write a book about your life and compare working for the Bolshoi with the NYC ballet- not just ballet-wise, but doing that during the cold War and what differences you noticed culturally and what you thought about them. Don't be intimidated about writing a book if you haven't done one already. You can get a co-writer and even have them ask you questions and answer them verbally. I was a ghostwriter for someone and that's how we did it.

I love Mariella Nuñez. She adds a lot of expressiveness to her dancing and it flows beautifully and naturally.

Carla Fracci is very, so very, special. Her stage presence is magical. Loved all the other ballerinas. I think one would have to include Osipova in this selection 😉. Thank you for putting this together.

Gelsey! Delightful to watch them all. Gelsey is light, airy, fleet-footed; her speed and ballon are wonderful. Nunez is also good. Osipova's Swanilda at the Bolshoi some years ago was phenomenal. Thanks for this.

Grazie per questo video! Molto bello! Mi piacciono tutte le ballerine in questo video, ognuna ha quel che di unico, ma in questo video preferisco la Fracci, è così dolce! La mia preferita in assoluto è Natalia Osipova. Grazie

of all the evolution videos I've seen so far this is my absolute favorite, each different age (and ballerinas!) incarnate the character of Swanilda differently but the essence remains, truly fantastical! I think my favourites are Fracci and Benjamin but all the dancers did a fantastic job!

Where did you leave Alicia Markova, Alicia Alonso and older ballerinas that danced this ballet? I am not saying that the great dancers like Fracci, Gelsey were not ideal but clearly other dancers in the Russian style have created this role to perfection. Recently I watched Maria Alexandrova in this role and she was genial.

How does someone who has so little muscle (Leanne Benjamin) even manage to dance at all and have such stamina? I was distracted by the one ballerina's extreme thinness. It made it hard to even enjoy the dancing. Yikes!
@shieldmaidenforchrist1310 Жыл бұрын
I'm not saying she isn't very, very thin, but I believe the frame was compressed horizontally. The proportions look odd, check the arm shape when her arms are horizontal. From photos of her, she definitely has muscle, she's very chiseled.

Nunez is way off the music. Lackluster. Surprising.
