Now you've seen us install the MSS kit, head over and watch Joe's video to see what he thinks of it on his M2 Competition, and also as a little bonus in an M140i! - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHqul6ynZ8d-jNk

Thanks and loved the video. I don't know anything about spring rates for cars except for basic DIY aftermarket spring changes. I'm just trying a basic thought experiment. Does the combination of the two springs change make the spring rate more "progressive"? Most springs seem very linear (excluding coil-overs) will this make the initial compression easier and gets significantly harder as you go in to the spring until bottom out? How does the height adjustment change or can you force the "lighter" spring to reach end of travel sooner?
@EvolveAutomotive4 жыл бұрын
A linear spring is made up of one spring rate that doesn't significantly as the spring compresses - A progressive spring has more than one spring rate. So from my understanding yes the softer spring reacts first, giving you comfort, whilst when loaded up the stiffer spring comes in to play to provide the handling benefit. Height adjustment does not change the springs initial compression amount unless it is maxing the damper out, which on OEM dampers these will not. We have found that setting the MSS kit to stock height improves comfort even more, so on the tests we have done we have compared to lowered MSS, a 'worst case scenario' for the kit and the stock damper.

I’m confused about the orientation of the rear springs. MSS UK told me that the black springs should go on the top of orange springs, however, you put orange springs on the top. So, which one is correct?

@raveutcars4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the bottom spring is stiffer but its not what gives you the handling and flatness. It looks like spring rate 1 is all coils working on both springs . Spring rate 2 which will be higher is thanks to the top part of the black spring going coil bound making the black spring stiffer so the effective rate of the two springs is higher. Spring rate 3 is black spring fully coil bound meaning your are just on the orange spring giving an effective spring rate higher again. So its actually the orange spring giving you the "flatness" and black spring adding the comfort. Lets say 60N/mm for orange and give the black one and arbitrary 120N/mm on all coils and 200N/mm when top section is coil bound. Using (k1*k2)/(k1+k2) for springs in series you get roughly Spring rate 1 = 40N/mm. Spring rate 2 = 46N/mm Spring rate 3 = 60N/mm Interesting system. How much of the black spring is coil bound at ride height?

Evolve Automotive you show in the video that your measuring both the front and rear adjusters but no mention of the measurement during the video. If you happen to do another M2 with MMS Springs would you mind posting the measurements. If you did I’ll as Joe if he could share on his site. Thanks

Thanks for the video guys - how do these springs work with standard bmw adaptive dampers - any complications or variances in install etc? talking about F30 328i with the optional suspension thanks.
@EvolveAutomotive4 жыл бұрын
They work great with adaptive! One of the big pluses is that you get height adjustability without spending thousands on adaptive coilovers or sacrificing the adaptive feature and having it coded out Other than unplugging the damper at the front there’s no difference install wise, we would charge the same amount for both.
@MeMurphy10Feb4 жыл бұрын

sorry guys maybe betraying my ignorance here but by unplugging the front adaptive damper does that means that the front is static ie the adaptive piece is no longer operating? If so thats not a show stopper but are the MSS front springs likely to reduce understeer - frankly that is the key thing that has disappointed me about the handling - don't want hero pointy but should be sharper - thanks.
