I had one of these approved used from bmw 2008 model.. it blew up😂.. injector stuck open and caused £46,000 of damage (new engine, cats, injectors etc etc etc).. bmw warranty did something they never do and offered me an alternative payout of £22k at the time (2k more then what i paid them for the car) to let the car go which i accepted lol

With regard to the throttle actuators. The root cause of them failing is overloaded circuit boards caused by the motor working harder than it should because the heat of the engine dries out all the pivot points of the linkages that connect the throttle actuators to the butterfly valves on each throttle body. The whole mechanism becomes dry, stiff and squeaky. It’s important to lubricant all the joints thoroughly when you replace the throttle actuators, so the whole mechanism can move freely - otherwise the new actuators will just be working too hard and they’ll fail prematurely as well. People mistakenly think worn plastic gears inside the actuators are the root of the problem, but they aren’t.

Pretty clean example of a crazy car - who knew a 1.7 ton (or something) passenger car needed 10 cylinders... Or 10 cylinders and two turbos - in case of the C6 generation RS6 audi. Crazy times! Either way - general BMW-ness for the car aside - I would highly suggest not using any torque/electric tool on the bottom cover 8 mil screws. I have a 2012 F11 in a generally decent condition - but about 5-6 of these screws were broken off at the head - after I purchased the car. All the undertray covers are kept well in place even with these broken off (depending where the broken ones are located, of course) - but all the screws should no doubt be there, and they're a terrible pain to extract once they break off. Use a small manual 8 mm socket instead - try to be gentle on them. Most of them are threaded into steel clips - which CAN be accessed from the other side and hit-ted with WD40 or something better, aiding in unbolting. Care should be exerted here - and no electric hi-torque tools. For some reason they rust right below the head - which of course is the stupidest place for them to rust, but don't forget it's a BMW. The screws can be replaced only by original BMW screws, part number for my F11 is OE-07149213164. All similar (BUT NOT EXACTLY THESE) screws will cross-thread and ruin the fastener/steel clip. They cost just below a euro a year ago when I bought tons of them, and then I spray-painted them - just to be sure I've done all I can to prevent them for rusting. Another trick is to pack some thick grease (we have Solidol here in Latvia) in and around them when fastening - just to give them that much of a fighting chance. Otherwise nothing to add to the video. Well done for the purchase - long-time viewer from Latvia.

I've just read something very interesting that I never knew. The S85 engine had at least 3 versions. Pre 2007, 2007-2009 and a final one in 2009. The list of changes is extensive, oil pan, oil drain(s) vanos gears, bearings, oil piston squirters, head bolts, and many more items. Any experience with these later engines? Are they less likely to eat themselves?

I owned a 2008 m6 coupe. I absolutely loved it. Sure, the SMG was clunky, but had brutal acceleration at the highest settings. My SMG pump was replaced under warranty, but that ordeal made it very clear how expensive it would be to keep. As soon as the factory warranty expired, I got rid of it. I realized it was a racing-inspired car, and those cars need more maintenance. But, it's a shame that BMW makes cars you can't keep for life. You spend so much money that it should last your lifetime with regular maintenance.
