Actually started a similar process of learning the theory behind chord progressions/scales with a buddy of mine who’s a jazz keyboard player. It sounds like gibberish‼️😂

My best asset as either a musician, producer or songwriter is my abillity, being a creative kinda guy, to learn whatever and then go: " Hey,- this is great! How about if we did it the other way round? Or backwards?"

So when you practice your scales, what will your practice regimen look like?
@ER-yq1lc3 жыл бұрын
For learning scales and the number system I would suggest starting on Keyboard (not guitar) in the key of C. C Ionian (Major) scale is all the white keys from C to C (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,1), if you play a C major triad shape (root and skip every other white key, 1,3,5=root third and fifth) you can move that same chord shape up on the white keys (2,4,6 - 3,5,7 etc.) and it will automatically follow the chordal scale that the Nashville number system is based on, 1 Major, 2 minor, 3 minor, 4 Major, 5 Major, 6 minor, 7 diminished. Once you understand C major, that's a good jumping off point to learn the other Keys, and Scales Major, minor, and various modes. I'm not a keyboard player or a music teacher, or even a youtube, but I made a couple poor quality videos on my youtube channel to explain the basics to a friend of mine if you want to check them out.

Piano is a great way to learn music theory. Also guitar is good because once you learn the scale shapes you can slide them anywhere up and down the fretboard and play them in any key.

I know I’m a day (5) days late on commenting on this video, I have been SOOOO slammed at work, which is why I have been strolling into the party somewhat fashionably late, yet still in here with ya brother!! Lol I love that you shared about the wanting to learn more of growing your skill sets to be more apt to chart/ write/ create music on a scale that reaches in a broader spectrum of artists/ engineers and such, I too come from the school of trial by fire and self taught university. I have over 3 decades of hands on learning which started in “83” when I talked my Mom into buying me my first set of drums (CB700-speedfire) and taught myself how to play by dissecting song after song and formed my first band in “84” for the simple reason I liked girls...girls loved rock stars and it wasn’t rocket science that to be a rock star you had to either be able to sing or play an instrument, preferably anything but the bass!! Lol just kidding...not!! Lol Back to the learning, I to have been blessed with a natural ability to find hooks and melodies in the lyrics but also writing lyrics that tell the story your trying to share BUT (the big BUT) I struggle significantly with conveying these lyrics/ melodys/ hooks and such to others in a fashion that is true to what I hear in my head making it out into the world for others to hear...the struggle is real, so any and all help you can share in this skillz growing journey you are contemplating, I AM ALL IN with you brother. 1 last out loud thought concerning this topic, have you ever thought of how many timeless songs have never been heard or lost simply because the artist couldn’t find an Avenue to convey or share them as to bring them to life!! I often ponder this!! Thanks again brother and hope I didn’t ramble on too much, can’t wait to see where you go with this!! GOD bless you and your family Andrew!!

Hey I really enjoy this channel as to the number system Its pretty simple its the scale of any key for example in C Major C IS 1 and from there you count the numbers with D being 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 there are 8 keys in a scale the best way to learn it by heart is to apply it to a song for example in 4/4 time here is an pattern 1///4///6///5/// and so on we use this system in church to do unpracticed changes on the spot its really handy cheers

@@AndrewMasters Yessss! Let me know what ideas you come up with. Scott Paul Johnson has some great/easy videos on learning/using scales (for example "How to use the CAGED system to play a solo"); are you thinking about learning the scales on the guitar? Or piano? Or more learning what a certain number in a particular key sounds like? One thing I enjoyed when I started learning scales a while back was playing along to jam tracks - that's more fun than just playing the scale up and down to a metronome by itself. I think you can just find them if you type in "jam track" and then whatever key you want to practice.

I have learned so much from every video u put out but this might be some of the most helpful. As a church drummer I’m constantly hearing the other band members screaming out numbers and I always want to know how to do that but never felt like learning so this will help a lot.

Thank you for all your inspiring and entertaining videos! I’ve watched pretty much all of them by now. I think the ”Epic Home Studio Setups” are your best and the most interesting and original videos. I don’t find a lot of people doing that kind of videos anywhere online. I would love to see more of those in the future. There are already plenty of audio&music gear reviews. I am a live sound engineer (20 years in the business) with a home studio in Helsinki, Finland. Could you tell us a little about your local music community, how you interact and get new work. Thank you for all the great work and stay healthy! Peace & love, -Pyry

Simplistically if you use 3 notes per string then there's only one major scale shape to learn and then the modes are the same scale starting from a different note From there pentatonic minor and blues scale easily fit and then Nashville numbers can easily attach Something I use every day and makes learning or writing songs much easier

Learn the formula for a scale every type of scale has a formula. If you know the formula you can then figure out that scale in any key. Learn how the formula also includes a pattern of chord types. This will help see how the Nashville Number System works. Learning formulas and concepts is far easier that trying to memorize how to spell scales and chords in all keys.

No offense bro, but there’s a lot better than Warm Audio for around the same price range. Warm’s gear is all Chinese, factory made with subpar quality control. I’ve heard and read many stories about people’s WA gear breaking down - I believe Warm is good about replacing/fixing though. But there are plenty of companies that do all their builds in house, by hand, and with only a few people working on them; high quality control because they care greatly about each piece they build. Stuff like AudioScape, Louder Than Liftoff and Black Lion Audio for US are great products; and outside the US: Tegeler, WesAudio, IGS, Maag and Heritage Audio are all better than WA for the same price or just a little more.
