92 minutes/64 dollars!!! 90 minutes and $30 more than I filled my car with at Costco.

ok, but now compare it to an actually equivalent vehicle, you know, a PICKUP TRUCK, you'd be looking well over $100 to fill up then

@@mysteryboyee Not true at all. Modern EcoBoost F-150s have ~25gal tank. At $2.57, the price at a Walmart station near me today in Coastal Texas, that would cost exactly $64 to fill up my F-150. So same price, 85 minutes less. EVs are quite a bit more expensive to road trip when gas prices are cheap.

Disappointing to see the charging rate drop so early in the process. I expected a drop at 80, but not 35

Very informative, thank you! I might have missed it, but I think if you somehow added range to the graph too, that would help. It looks like the Rivian charges relatively quickly because it's charging such a massive battery. But I don't know how it compares to something such as an Ioniq 5 which charges super fast, but the battery is much smaller. In your Ioniq 5 video, you pointed out the mileage you would get in your 10-80% charge/18 minute charge. The Rivian is much less efficient but has a bigger battery, so it could be equal to get 179 miles in 18 minutes like the Hyundai? Knowing mileage with time at a charger is super handy for a real world evaluation of what to expect on a road trip.

Good feedback! We'll keep this in mind for future charging tests. Thanks for watching and commenting. With the Rivian R1T at 10% S.O.C. the range is estimated at 27.4 miles. 80% = 219.2 miles. So you're gaining 191.8 miles in the time it takes to go from 10% to 80%. Hope that helps!

Compass Yellow discontinued, big let down--no Sirus XM ! everything is cell coverage based. 22,000 miles on ours now. Map degrades when no cell coverage. Otherwise love our R1T. Have several 1000 mile road trips plus a 3000 mile road trip.

Sirius XM was just announced. And to each their own I guess but that Mustard Yellow color was terrible. Apparently other buyers agreed and steered clear... If you have coverage on your cell try putting the phone in hotspot mode and connecting the Rivian to the hotspot via Wi-Fi.

@@Aegisx5 My issue is that even at home I have areas that have zero cell coverage. Up the road is a 25,000 ac ranch that only has cell coverage in one spot about 10 feet in diameter. Cell coverage out west is difficult away from major routes & in the mountains. My 10 year old Cayenne has Sat radio, my 15 year old Dodge truck has it. It's pretty quiet in my truck in the mountains, desert or north coast of CA & OR.

Dang, Hate Bolts much? I have a Bolt and an Ioniq 6. If the Bolts are on a trip they'll need to charge!

True. Craig has run into a few situations where cars are charging at a 350 when a 150 is available. It’s more education (we have some videos on it) than anything else. We actually think the Bolt is great and a great deal. Shame GM is killing the current version and the next one is so unknown.

People charging slow charging EVs in faster charging stalls is a SIGNIFICANTLY larger problem than us doing a charge curve test, but your point is taken.

@@EVPulsePeople who bought Bolts did so paying extra for the DC charging capability at a rate that was fast at the time. Their cars are significantly more efficient than any EV pickup, their lower power DC charging doesn't create a menace to the grid, and despite having only a 60 kWh battery, they have a similar real world range of 250-270 miles range. Conversely, an R1T pulling a toy box will need to clog up a DC charging station much more frequently. Your disdain for Bolts using the available chargers on the available network is rude, so stop creating/perpetuating hate for those drivers. They were the early adopters that gave birth to the non-Tesla charging network, without which, that Rivian wouldn't be able to travel longer distances.

Rivian is an efficiency pig. It gets literally half the milage per kWh of a sedan. So Road Trip king it is not. The only EV with worse efficiency is the Hummer EV. That makes this EV the second worse EV for reducing climate impact.
@karlInSanDiego
@karlInSanDiego 11 ай бұрын
@@justinstewart3248 you just compared the worst efficiency EV to a gas truck to try to make it look good. It's not good on efficiency and your comparison to gas doesn't change that. You have to either stop more often or charge longer than other EVs to take this on a Road Trip. Road Trips, BTW, are an afront to climate action which is most people's reason to go electric. Call my argument against the Rivian as a Road Trip King an extremely poor argument if it makes you feel good that a $90,000 135kWh mid sized pickup is actually a great Road Trip King. It doesn't change the fact that it's not a Road Trip King.

Not only did GM kill and crushed the EV1 and sold its technology to big oil Texaco/Chevron, but they're still doing all they can to discourage EV adoption by making an EV that charges at a peak of 55kws. I'm waiting to see someone either flip one over with a group of friends or downright tow it right out of a 350kw charger spot. In fact, I think the charging providers should prevent them from charging on anything higher than a 150kw unless none of those are working. It's a simple software change.
