A dangerous song for me. Seems to unlock a darkness that I usually try to ignore and is hard to contain once out. Floored me for the entirety of yesterday. Ear worm. Will have to be on strictly limited rotation like Tin the Manhole which is a shame since it's so heartbreakingly beautiful. Outstanding album.

Me too. There's something about it that makes me well up. I had to skip it when listening to it whilst commuting for the first few times through the whole LP. Nobody wants to witness a grown man crying on a train in a morning.
@Jill_SmokeandMirrors2 жыл бұрын
@@grizcuz There's so much sadness around right now that I think many of us are squashing it down just to keep on going. This song taps right into that vulnerable place. There are a lot of tentacles: death, atrophy, grief and anticipatory grief in my life right now and it's probably healthy to have a good sob once in a while. The problem is that once heard, my head won't stop playing it even when the track has stopped. I suppose a key part of art is to remind you that you're human and to feel a connection.
@gavdrans6 ай бұрын
for me it just always comes back to that line. “there you go…I know it has to be.” coming to terms with a loss, watching your loved one go, accepting that it had to happen for reasons beyond your understanding. I’m currently mourning a close friend’s unexpected passing and I’m grateful to have this song for comfort

Possibly your most beautiful song, in love with it. If anyone is interested in the meaning the guys said a little about it on twitter. Alex: Wrote the music for this very early on, was dealing with grief at the time and this track was my escape and also a celebration for the family member we have lost. Jon very sensitively put this into his lyrics. This is a very moving track for me. Jon: This song is about grief, the point of view switches between that of a parent & a child, all mixed up and clouded in sadness & joy. A moment in life where you are both infant & elder. The outro lyrics (when I met you) are from a eulogy. I wanted a metaphor for impending death, unstoppable, inevitable and immense. So it became a many tentacled, black, mythical serpent that is eternally approaching.

I lost several family members recently, and can completely relate to the grief that inspired this incredible song and it's lyrics. One of those songs that deserves constant replay. Absolutely beautiful and you can feel so much emotion behind it, and like someone mentioned below, it has a haunting feel.

All the best EE songs are tragically underrated. This is my new favourite of the bunch. Probably the most romantic song they've produced, despite it's origins *edit* The entire album is the most romantic they've ever been tbf

@harduphiker19 күн бұрын
I loved this song when I first heard it, I understood the grief part, but now sadly i REALLY understand it, losing my partner 13 weeks ago. It would make me tearful before, now it's ugly sobbing...but can confirm, this is what grief feels like,. Death moving among us slowly and carefully and ignored by most as a boogieman until it strikes and takes your loved ones away to the deep. But it is the way of things, you know it has to be, even though you desperately don't want it to take them away. And love is the flip side of that, as is new life, as referenced later...I think there were both deaths and births in the band?

Isn’t it mindboggling what A.I. can achieve at this Point? Even Bands, Music, Movies, People, Nature… Everything! A whole fake World simulated. I don’t know how this is possible but it freaks me out. What’s next Skynet? … I want my money back. This trip feels no good anymore. 😝

the use of AI urks me, but the album is good
@ValerieNight9 ай бұрын
The band didn’t really use AI to make the album. Their Kevin chatbot mostly spat out garbage. They took that garbage and pulled out a couple words here and there and a song title. This was also pre-GPT era stuff, nowhere near as complex or morally strange as the stuff that scrapes the entire internet. The AI is just a framing device for the message of the album, about technology, trauma, and the alien feeling of the modern day.

So irksome you won't even use autocorrect?
@d0ntb0th3r Жыл бұрын
not to diminish the artists' intent and feelings poured into the song, but my initial interpretation/gut feeling was something akin to a back-and-forth between a person (maybe or maybe not representing humanity or the human spirit as a whole) and some distant massive hyper-intelligent AI. A love song where the limitations of information that humans usually have difficulty with are being stripped away, into a more raw communication. In my propensity to imagine ideal worlds far into the future after all this awful shit we're up to now, a grand array of conscious AI are like the brother to Humanity, the silicon counterpart to our carbon beings. A comfortable coexistence, not unlike those in a loving family would feel. It's ideal but it gives me hope that after the coming era where the ideals of "universal truth" come undone and the struggle to not to complete destroy the homeworld, and not to unleash the havok of our current global order onto the universe, that there will be some sort of resolution to these seemingly impossible issues to overcome.
