I've considered asking for help of sorts but every time someone does I see them told the same obvious but trope-y trash like "ABC: always be casting". Easier said than done. I even have a second hotbar showing the rotation order in addition to my XHB just for self-help/reference but struggle with uptime, some positionals, making rotation muscle-memory etc etc. I don't think anyone has ever gone from "piss-poor BLM" to top of their raid static BLM by being told the same tropy shit and thrown the same graphs or told numbers.

Utilize triple cast and swift cast whenever you’re on the move, don’t skimp on sharpcast, and don’t hold onto polyglots too long. If you can do that and not let Enochian run out, you’ll be golden. Remember: Always Be Casting.

I just got the complete edition on steam, and I ran it back with the thaumaturge again since I loved the damage output. I appreciate the video. But just some advice. Try to add more visualization of what you are talking about. Not verbally but basically making a simple chart, showing what you are talking about. Some people may not know what you are talking about when you say flare. Or enochain. I know you mentioned it in the video but I'm just saying that people may struggle to remember names especially when you are openly talking about it as if they had already experimented ot dealt with this stuff before. Because explaining rotations can be overwhelming to new players. So if you are going to mention an aoe rotation. Shown that rotation and show what ability you are talking about and etc. So for example the triple flare. I got what you meant, but not entirely. A lot of it was trying to visualize what you were saying in my head

prior to thundercloud for AoE i just Fire2 spam until low on MP, tranpose, blizzard 2, tranpose, fire 2. only bad part is you need to anticipate aoe's/attacks to get out of. i only cast thunder on single target that stay up for a very long time others imo it seems like a dps loss unless you pre cast it and tank is pulling w2w and running to gather more mobs. prior to thundercloud it didn't seem necessary to use it though. i cast scathe when mobs are super low on health too. instant cast and pretty much can 1 shot them at low health.

Researching BLM rotations for my fiance. This is her first MMO. She's about.level 54 iirc, but hasnt got to Heavensward yet so is functionally still level 50 in terms of skills. I'm by no means good at crunching the numbers when it comes to dps on BLM rotation, but I actually like to use Fire 2 for the damage then just Blizzard 3, gain MP and rinse, repeat. I'm not entirely sure if it's actually detrimental considering the cast time though.

I'm currently lvl 50 and I'm still trying to get the best rotation down. It usually goes like this : Fire 3, scathe, thunder 3, scathe, Fire, scathe until low on mana, then blizzard 3, scathe, rinse repeat. When it comes to flare I'll use it during 3 gem for max damage, then transpose to ice for some mana recovery plus manafont. That's usually enough for me to be back at near full MP. Obviously thunder proc whenever necessary and for AOEs I'm trying my best to use fire 2 when possible since it does much more damage and if you can get the mana restoration down it could be amazing. Then again I'm not a mage main so maybe I'm sacrificing dps trying to get the biggest damage rather than most consistent and continuous damage. Any tips/thoughts from any BLM mains?

you shouldn't be using Scathe at all. basic idea across all levels as BLM is to cast as much Fire as possible, switch into Umbral Ice and cast fillers until your mana is full again, then switch back to fire. at level 50, this looks like (for single target): Blizzard 3 (open with full Umbral Ice stacks) Thunder 3 (filler, start DoT) Fire 3 (switch to fire with full Astral Fire stack) Fire 1 until mana is near-empty, using Fire 3 and Thunder 3 as they proc repeat when you are standing still, Scathe is always a DPS loss, causes mana issues, and makes the rest of the rotation awkward. it may be useful when you have to move, since its instant-cast, but it's preferable to use Swiftcast if it is up. some places I actually do use Scathe is when chasing the tank during a large pull, or in the overworld.

Every BLM rotation guide I see on the Internet, I meet the same "use 3x Fire4 1x Fire1 and 3x Fire4. This sequence is indeed very heavy on damage but in an actual fight scenario, where you will have to move around constantly, these 6x Fire4 are very hard to complete, without loosing enochian. IMO, shorter/faster rotations are better to keep them up all the time. I like to use fast cast as opener and... blizzard 3, encohian, blizzard 4, fire 3, fire 4 3x, blizard 3. Repeat. In between this rotation, whenever the timing is ok, I put Thunder, despair or xenoglosy. Doing this, I can keep damage high and still have mobility.

to anyone reading this at level 50 content if you have a proc and don't have enough mana for anymore fire 1 and manafont is off cooldown, use the proc then weave a swiftcast then use flare and weave mana font and then 1 more fire 1 then start up in ice, it's a slight dps gain. Edit: however this becomes a dps loss upon gaining fire 4 at 60

Fire II is boosted by your astral fire stacks' damage increase. So that fire 2 is actually doing 128 potency at fire level 2 and 144 at fire level 3. You want to open with freeze and use fire 3 to get into fire then use fire II when you can until you're nearly out of MP then transpose or Freeze when you learn it.Reapply AOE thunder then Spam freeze until MP is full. Ignoring Fire II at levels 18 to 71 means leaving 44 potency per mob on the table per cast.

yeah I get that but like, when is a mob alive for more than 1 fire II considering they are 3s cast each? that's the main issue I have with it, by the time I'm using it, mobs dead, or at very least close to dead, that kinda close so that if you cast and they end up dying at any point during that massive 3 second cast time it'll just cancel. As I said I'm sure its statistically superior, I just, personally, cannot vibe with fire II

If mobs won't live long enough then the freeze is fine, but there are quite a few pulls in dungeons from levels 50 to 71 that the mobs will be alive for a considerable amount of time and triple cast when you get it enhances fire II immensely. It does become obsolete as soon as you get the lv 72 0 mp ice spell trait. The numerical advantage fire II has makes it viable whenever there are 3 or more mobs opposed to 4 with freeze or 5 with blizzard II.

@@BunnychanFarabee It really isnt. From a purely potency per second perspective 100 potency over a 2.5 second cast time is 40 per second. 128 over a 3 second is 42 and some change. Sounds super small but this is per mob, so for every mob there is that difference will increase. Then at 40, 128 turns into 144

does swiftcast really do shit when ur using a spell with any cast time? youre still gonna have to wait for the recast before you can even use instant cast spells, most useless skill in the game imo

Well since most of the BLM spells you'll want to be using have a larger CAST time than RECAST time, this effectively saves the difference between the cast and recast time. Not to mention, this gives you more time to MOVE!
