I prefer the older strings, the basses sounds rounder and warmer than with the new strings. But it depends also on the guitar. Some guitars are very dead with old strings, but a real good guitar still sounds great with old strings.

Yeah that's it the new ones sound more tight, that was the sound I could notice. But I think I preferred the sound of the olds ones lol. Thanks for the demonstration

My 416ce from 2012 still has the same strings since new. Starting to sound very dull and muddy. I'm probably going to be changing them out here soon lol.

You played the part with new strings slightly faster and therefore it sounded more lively. It’s very probable you also played slightly louder. So, a part from the differences YOU introduced in the comparison. The old and new strings sound the same. The notion that some submicroscopic layer of oxidation could change the way a string vibrates is simply ridiculous.
