The tuning is Open B (BF#BF#BD#). Trying to figure out what gauge of strings he’s using. My guess is something relatively heavy on the bottom like 50 or above. There’s so much amazing technique in this song you don’t see anywhere else. He doesn’t seem to be using a thumb pick from what I can tell. Trying to analyze this to learn it. There’s a reason there’s only one cover of it as of posting. Update tried to 12-56 blue grass d’daddario strings and the low B could have more tension to be better balanced, but it’s totally workable. I recommend at least a 60. All the other strings feel right though. I heard he uses elixirs and sometimes replaces the 12 with a 14.

Definitely using a thumb pick (check his hand at the very end of the song). Back in the day he used fingerpicks as well, until he acquired a numbness when using them. My skill level isn't anywhere near adequate to play this...

IMO the rotosound nexus 12-54 are superior to the Elixirs. Absolutely worth a try. They look so pretty lay over EVO gold frets. Pretty sure there used to be 13-56’s but I can’t find them anymore :(

How do you feeling about a CGCGCC tuning? I've been really liking it. I do mostly strum. And it feels like i get a lot of depth with the sus chords, and the bar chords have the beauty of open tunings, but allows me to play CMaj to Cmaj with ease. Im just self taught, i mostly just jam on my accoustic. Was previously in CGCGCE, But i didnt ike how the bar chords sounded on a few of the frets. So i tuned it so the bottom two strings are the same. As an experienced guitarist, any thoughts? Is this just a crutch because i suck?
