Wow, after watching a lot of your videos and seeing this much scrap on the street in every video I just don't know how it's possible...in Australia do they only let you put that stuff out once a month or something? In America I have never seen nearly as much trash piled up outside a home before...

Heatherton/Clarinda suburbs have always been good pickings, really anywhere broadly in that area of Moorabbin to Oakleigh is good. Nice find with the Mitutoyo caliper. Shove a battery in it to see if it works. At 31:10 that $10 note, the note issuing branch will give you proportionately what it is worth. If 80% is there, you get $8.

I live in Indiana. The city I live in has a heavy trash day the 1st week of every month. Here it's similar to what Ben is getting, he does have the edge because there's so much scrap (actually to much to go through) here we have it 12 times a year to what Ben has once or twice a year. You can predict that you can get several hundred pounds of Christmas light starting in October and a.c. units & fans in April, you can pretty much tell what's going to be at the curb each month! It's really a good system. Except it brings in scrappers from 30 miles away by the dozens. But I've learned the trick to get the choice items before the out of town guys/gals do!

You tittled it very well. PC mayhem and cord food, Very appropriate considering that may have been the best scrap day with what you got in the minutes you put in!!! Not to mention the Caliper, WOW!!! I'm amazed at the things people throw in the trash. I've found many, many things. The best was an antique rocking chair that I picked up because I was always wanting to get a regular one (not an antique). I just never got around to buying one. I looked it up when I got home and found that it was OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD, & valued at $1,600.00 at the low end some have SOLD for as much as $4,000.00, I couldn't believe that someone thought it to be TRASH!! But My Treasure!!!!!

41:30 This looks like a x79 board. Mostly sold with i7-3820. Common issues are weak power supplies in these ebay plug n play machines. Not bad. This cpu can easy be overclocked to 4.7 Ghz with a cheap watercooler. Still a good comp today.

They most certainly do in my neck of the woods. Better yet - a quick ad on CL offering to haul e-waste for free manages to get a LOT of calls. Tons of TV's and the usual PC waste. Day after normal trash pickup is best. People set out banned items, the trash men leave them, and I take them. Winner, winner!

@TechGorilla1987
@TechGorilla1987 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, you're letting your feelings get in the way of logic. I, as a repair guy, can swap a cord out in no time. If X, Y or Z is worth fixing, it's worth repairing a cord. Seeing what Ben makes on copper, I would cut cords too.
@shaneyork300
@shaneyork300 6 жыл бұрын
Cameron Thompson When you edited maybe you should have taken the 2 words out "dick move" if you know Ben. That's one thing he's not! Your last couple of lines are correct. Not trying to say anything nasty to you. Just my opinion from watching every video Ben has put out. ( More than once )
@sneakyguy4444
@sneakyguy4444 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not faulting Ben, if he doesn't someone else probably will get to it haha. Just feels wrong to chop the cords of working products and run but like I said someone else would anyway
@shaneyork300
@shaneyork300 6 жыл бұрын
Cameron Thompson That's why I put "your last 2 lines where correct", from your 1st comment. I truly meant no offence! I have been a big fan of Ben's for quite awhile and he's talked extensively about the cord cutting. Also on one of his vids he caught on vid one of the many professional cord cutters driving around on a little scooter from pile to pile. They where whipping around from the sidewalk to the street. They also leave a huge mess behind, because they don't give a crap! If Ben didn't do it the rude pro cord cutters would be 5 minutes behind him, then they would cut it and leave a mess. Have a good day Cameron! Thanks for being cool and not ripping into me, again no offence was meant. I hope we can use this as our 1st communication and hopefully we'll have more and they'll be 100% positive !!!! Good Day!!

Certain companies buy digital goods like motors, circuit boards by weight, the laser diodes in DVD and especially blu ray players can sell for quite a bit, lots of value in things that all add up :) remotes, stepper motors in printers, fans, etc. And if you can handle it, taking small fridges, washing machines and dryers, old water heaters, for a great amount of material for not alot of time. Just add a few big tubs to the van and sort it out later lol. I like to hoard in bulk and take them/sort efficiently. Drill, mallet, Long screwdriver bits and my favourite for big stubborn items, my trusty sledgehammer haha. Steel generally isn't worth it unless you have a big van and space for a drum to fit all the leftover panels and plates to sell.
@gortnewton4765

Cameron Thompson "laser diodes in DVD and especially blu ray players can sell for quite a bit" - where do you sell those and if I may ask, how much. I have piles of DVDs here.
@sneakyguy4444
@sneakyguy4444 6 жыл бұрын
Can do ebay, online and sell boxes of assorted diodes maybe, might be lucky to find an electronics shop or ewaste buyer but dont expect as much. If it has a CD/DVD burning capability the lasers are alot stronger and where most of the real value is. Careful if you want to test it though, you can really hurt yourself. Still, its free money rather than throwing it in the dump, sometimes good components get missed in favour of finding metal content

Kathryn Fields As a scrapper myself cutting cords isn't the real fun stuff. But if you don't cut cords or pick up stainless steel sinks, most scrappers don't have gas money. The ewaste scrappers save the GBI for the future/retirement or a very rainy day! That's the REAL FUN STUFF!!! That's why Ben gets excited with pc's!
