A lot of people from this ethnicity wound up in Louisiana and Haiti and Cuba during the slave trade. The French and the Portuguese would purchase them from Dahomey.

Very interesting to note. Both sides of my family are descended from the Fon and Ewe peoples and our enslaved ancestors were taken to Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. .
