Everyone is euphoric, or should I say "ewephoric" at Ewetopia Farms these days. Now that autumn is upon us, we, as sheep farmers, can look back on summer and answer the question "How Do You Know When Your Sheep Farm Is Doing Well?" Look at your sheep and how you feel about what you see. Today, as things are settling in for fall and we are finally getting caught up on all our work until harvest, we can truly look at our sheep and see what all our work was for. To start, as we feed all the various sheep groups, we see the same thing whether it be sheep in breeding groups or rams waiting for new homes or replacement ewe lambs, and what we see is that all the sheep are eating well, growing well, and are feeling comfortable on our farm. This evokes feelings of pride and satisfaction for us, and for the sheep, their happiness is reflected in their interactions with us. This feeling of success is passed on to customers when they come to purchase ewes and rams from us by providing them with quality sheep that will enhance their own sheep farming endeavors as in the couple who picked up a Suffolk ram from us this afternoon. When the sheep are doing well, the customers also do well, and most importantly, we do well, and that's when you know you are doing something right. For us, it allows us now to relax a little, enjoy the sheep and other animals on our farm more, and to fit in some leisure time to do some hiking and to visit family knowing that all is settled down and running smoothly back on the farm. There is still a never ending amount of cropping yet to be done this year and even a bit more haying, but as far as the sheep farming part of our business, things are going well and we are just hanging in until lambing season starts.
