A boat man can row with a speed of 10kmh−1 in still water. If the river flows steadily at 5km/h, in which direction should the boatman row in order to reach a point on the other bank directly opposite to the point from where he stared ? The width of the river is 2km.

Sir, i would like to correct you here, the angle should be taken with respect to the normal ( the actual path that he should have followed where the angle will be 90 with river), so after correcting the value of angle will be 30 degrees. 👍

Actually your(and probably ans in tect book is wrong)10kmps is in still water! but this time the boat is also in motion by river, So velocity is √10²+5²=√125 Now Vsintheta(velocity of boat in x axis) = - of velocity of river, which is 5kmps , theta = sin-¹(5/√125), So total angle needed is[ sin-¹(5/√125)+90]° Correct me if i m weong
