I have read something similar to this in the "Destiny of Souls" book. It is called Replacement by Approval where a new soul enters that same body in full maturity. This new soul helps that old soul in completing its journey faster on this earth. They help the old soul in many ways. According to that book there are many people who are here on this earth who are not born from scratch but by method of replacement to do very specific work. I think Shiva had a strong desire to bring the truth of murder out and may be also the desire to live but she lost her body and her spirit still lived. She was looking for a medium of body and she found the body of Sumitra as the right person to fulfill her desire of bringing truth of murder.
