You know why it takes a big budget to hire talented animators? Because to get talented you must pay absolutely punitive sums for your education and make shows like ex-arm out of pocket, and those student loans must somehow find a source of profit to get paid off. Ex-arm was pretty much the equivalent of a company taking the plunge and hoping that these new people who now gained this experience making it didn't need to, and won't have to cry about loan forgiveness later. This is how industry happens, how it ever has happened, like it happened in 90's when nobody had previous experience and you couldn't cry out "just hire the old talent again", like those people are gonna live forever. It's pretty annoying how many people are going "REEE you're wasting audience's money for THIS?!!" on a product that is essentially bought FOR you in exchange of watching some ads and a pocket money entry fee. Just because you're accustomed doing the same to experienced animators as wood mills are doing to rainforests: it's there, so why not just raze it?

Honestly I get what the director was trying to do. He wanted to do an anime that used live action techniques. The problem is like you said, he hired people that no experience in anime production. Why not have a crew that has plenty of experience working on anime, and have them study live action techniques in film, so they can animate in a way that looks like it was made live action. Brad Bird does this all the time in his animated movies, But he does he used his crew that worked on TomorrowLand to make something like The Incredibles or Ratatouille, Of course not, because those people have more experience in live action than they do in animation. Even Final Space manages to pull this kind of style off because it again, uses a team who know there stuff in animation, but still use live action techniques to give it it's own visual flair. Thank you all for coming to my TED-Talk Side note: Nice animation, you actually got me interested into reading the manga

For those who say things about the animators having “no talent”: I don’t wanna be that person, but I wouldn’t say talent would help making this anime look like Attack on Titan animation or something. It’s more of their effort. If they put more effort into the animation, it would’ve been good. Talent has nothing to do with the animation quality. This applies to everything else too. I haven’t watch the anime nor read the manga, but it also seems like they started the anime project at the wrong time. The animations are messy, the voice lines and sound effects seemed rushed, I don’t see much effects, etc. I hope they (or some else) remake this anime in the future because the plot looks interesting.

Wonderfully done Mauricio!!! The animation is leaps and bounds above the original and feels more like the manga. I loved that you showed your process of creating this animation and I would love to see more BTS type of stuff from you. The voice actresses, Nat and Evee, were perfect!!! They both fit so well in their roles and did an amazing job bringing the scene to life!! Beautifully done, ladies, and stellar casting, mega Chad! Keep up the amazing work!

I find it hard to believe that the animators and production people actually all thought it was good. Like the crappiest thing I’ve seen looks like a Johnny Johnny yes papa nursery rhyme animation, even worse. I don’t know how they actually got decent voice actors for this, I was suprised to see the voice actors sounded normal with the caliber of animation. If this man made the anime I would of loved it and everyone would.

The original company actually had a team of inexperienced people who had never worked on an anime before. I am one of those people who thinks that CGI in anime can be done well (check out Beastars. That’s the quality of animation EX ARM should’ve had).

I am starting on the journey to learn how to animate in 3D and after I saw how bad ex arm was I kinda got disheartened that a multi-million dollar company is just not taking advantage of their opportunity because of pride? Because they don't care? I don't know but this honestly inspired me to work harder to understand what makes animation good and how to translate that to a model and eventually a story. Enough of my ramble tho this was amazingly animated in such a fast time. It wasn't animation heavy since they're sitting still most of the time but it really looks like it was made by someone who cares. It looks like it was made by someone who understands what makes animation good. Impressive stuff from an impressive Chad.
