Naheed Nenshi has officially entered the race for Alberta NDP leadership. The ex-Calgary mayor joins Power & Politics to discuss his decision and what he sees as the incompetence of the current government. He says the UCP 'are not only incompetent, but they're immoral and they're dangerous.' And, the Power Panel weighs in on Nenshi's announcement.

You have to wonder right? I’ve been thinking the same for a couple of weeks are they simply collecting information that they were deemed inappropriate or hateful or that sort of thing to use as examples to build their case for a need for national Internet censorship? Of course no matter what is commented they can turn it twisted contorted which is what these freaks do with everything
@William.Driscoll
@William.Driscoll 9 ай бұрын
I've recently read, if memory serves, that the CBC is run by people, and the people who prepare this work for Canadians to come together, across the country, they read the comments. When comments are destructive, rather than discussing the issue more meaningfully than calling for resignations, it gets depressing for the people who work to produce this work. So, the comments section--and its dysfunction--is often closed. Lastly, I'll offer my own input, which is that it attracts foreign-bot accounts set up to de-stabilize Canada by working to divide Canadians: When we argue among ourselves, and fear/hate the other, we aren't working to solve problems we face or and we aren't working to compete on local, national, and international markets, to attract capital/cash and quality of life to Calgarians, Albertans, and Canadians.

As a senior, I admire Mr. Nenshi's courage to put his name in the ring for the NDP leadership. In my opinion, he is intelligent, authentic, and down-to-earth. He is well-educated with a lot of practical experience in politics and knows what it is like to grow up poor. It's time to put Alberta back on an even keel and establish the province as a leader in Canada. Nenshi can do it.

@@judistench2167 1. If a 7% property tax increase crushed your business, that's on you. 2. A mayor has little control on the sources behind drug addiction and homelessness. 3. Road construction is a product of car-dependancy. Driving is a drain on cities. Would you rather they did not fix the roads..?

As a senior couple living in Alberta my husband and I lived first with dismay then outright fear living under the UCP government. Afraid that we would have to move out of Alberta if Smith got her hands on our CPP converting it into an APP, we now have hope that in 4 years she will be voted out. As a Christian I abhor much of what the UCP stands for, and while not an outright leftie, I feel more hope that this moderate Naheed Nenshi will get this province set back on the right footing. He will get both our votes.

I'm born and raised in Alberta and I don't think we need more self-serving "conservatives" coming to Alberta from other places. We need people to stop identifying with the group that wants to strip away people's rights, privatize every government service (driving the costs up to the actual people), and destroy every natural resource we have through unchecked extraction, lining their own pockets while impoverishing the entire world because of the environmental destruction they reap.

What a ridiculous comment. Nenshi won by an absolute landslide when he ran for mayor. LANDSLIDE. Last time I checked, this city is highly diverse and people from every echelon voted for him - three times in a row. Also, the difference between win/lose in the last election was 3000 votes and NDP would have absolutely won had the Alberta Party not been splitting the centrist vote.

If you actually look at the policies, the Islamic voters lean way more right than Nenshi or the NDP. Maybe you cons should welcome them as they are right wing voters...they don't like pride parades, gays, trans...so right up the right wing alley.
