It's actually quite frightening that he as ex CIA and ex Attorney State General do not understand why a small country like Montenegro is in Nato. First of all there is a direct threat through serbian nationalist government to overtake Montenegro back. As second Montenegro is a country with access to adriatic sea, if there is no NATO then the Vacum will be filled with Russia or China and you will directly there have a chinese or russian harbor. And as of the last point Montenegro is not far away of Camp Bondsteel on Kosovo, so it is perfect spot to observe Camps like that. I have a feeling that this guy is speaking/praising a bit more than he should, unfortunetly with really not to much knowledge about certain political decisions.

Another former CIA operative discussing Israel & Palestine . His perspective was opposite from mine . My personal travels , speaking with the people in Israel gave me an entirely different perspective than the CIA . This CIA operative is educated but you can’t believe everything you read or what you’re brainwashed to believe by the CIA instructors . The instructors will teach what they want the operatives to believe. When you live in the country you have first hand knowledge of exactly what is happening. You have more knowledge than any CIA operative about your own country.

Im not a fan of this guys interviewing but Ive only watched Kiriakou interview clips so far so maybe Im being too harsh. Danny doesn't seem very informed on the topics so he doesn't ever ask deeper digging follow up questions or push back on any assertions, he just sits there and says "really" with his mouth wide open. When John asserts that China isn't expansionist why was he not asked about Tibet, Indian border, the Uighurs of western China who are clearly not Chinese but find themselves somehow within China being exterminated, the South China sea and the nine dash map, or the constant military harassment and threats of Taiwan? When John talks about Putin and asking to Join Nato why was he not asked in return about the invasion of Crimea, Putin's history with KGB, the apartment building bombings, the internal repression of press or opposition in Russia, or the constant attacks by Putin on western democracy and institutions? Or even how to turn away tens and hundreds of millions of people who lived in the soviet sphere who are now afraid of Russia and come seeking to join Nato out of fear for their safety? Poland and those Baltic nations John so casually dismisses? I understand John would naturally have a pretty negative view after all he has seen and what has happened to him for standing up for what was right, but that doesn't mean his world view is entirely correct or beyond scrutiny. When he says things like Putin was pushed into invading its neighbor or China isn't expansionistic, it would make a much better and informative interview to challenge those assertions just a bit (call it playing devils advocate even if you wish) and see what his answers to those challenging questions might be. More than just sitting mouth agape like a grade school student learning algebra for the first time.

He works for a Russian radio station. Sputnik radio I think or something like that, so Russia is literally paying him to answer your question most directly. And yes, Russia did approach the Nato about membership but it was not a genuine interest, more like an attempt to poison and destroy from the inside. Putin was a mid level KGB officer in East Germany before the Soviet collapse so everything he does can be colored with that info. In effect, "How do we still have an organization to defend against Soviet Union if Russia is now a member?"
