The problem with this CEO is that he seems to think that there is a dicotomy between creating games as an artistic persuit and making games just for the sake of making a profit, this is clearly not the case. For the past couple decades there have been plenty of games that had a lot of passion put into them that were both extremely profitable and groundbreaking upon their release. Titles such as Minecraft (specifically 1.0 version), Undertale, and Stardew Valley. The thing this CEO is focused on isn't making a successful product, it's to make a product that generates growth after a game's release.

I doubt any of these can compare to sheer metric fuckton of of money that FIFA Ultimate Team gives them ALONE in a quarter tho. It's unfortunate reality that we live in, in which people are grossly irresponsible with their money and it's wallet not words that dictates the terms. We're rapidly approaching times where companies that have means to push the boundaries and innovate refuse to do so and instead put minimum effort into making the game and spend 3x the amount on marketing instead. There are only a few reasons to be bringing in a malware company that specializes in creating malware to work on your engine, and most of them involve inserting malware onto the devices of your customers. Given what kind of person we know the ceo is, it would be stupid to think he wouldn't be willing to cross more lines than he already has for the sake of self enrichment. Edit: For clarity, future games is in reference to games that come out in the future. Already published titles should be fine.

Meanwhile , the engine competition is actually working with devs , because everyone else realise that the devs are actually the ones making the games and pushing any engine forward. Unity in 6 months will start becoming a malaware field and no improved to the engine will be made in order to keep up with unreal and the rest. In a world where any engine workshop is actively trying to showcase how easy it is to make projects on their engine , unity think they don't have to. This will not end well.

Here is the issue here: You can’t sell a game engine based on monetization prospects only. And this is simply because, people won’t want to work with it if making games with said engine is a nightmare. I don’t understand how this CEO can’t see this. Aside from questionable acquisitions and quotes, this s what bugs me the most. I mean, it’s basic. Your customer aren’t people who don’t know how this things work, but businesses and seasonned devs. You don’t make products for entities the same way you do for individuals. That’s basic business FFS!

To think that the engine that made me decide to pursue a Computer Science degree back in middle school and the reason why I found my passion for programming and game dev is being perverted for corporate pleasure is beyond depressing.
