I recently started volunteering with Midwest Railway Preservation Society who has 4070. Much appreciated donations can be made to help 4070 return here: www.midwestrailway.org/ and to see MRPS's other projects like their roundhouse

A locomotive that ran alot back in the 1970s and 80s with little footage of her around and long overdue to return to steam. As much as we all hated her for killing steam on ConRail for so long she is a excellent and good looking representative of the common freight locomotive during most of the days of steam. Such a nice whistle too

What did 4070 do ?
@TheUnflushedToilet2 жыл бұрын
@@billstoehr5636 In 1977 the 4070 was double heading with Reading 2102 on the Horseshoe Curve which at the time been owned by Conrail. However, while running on the curve the 4070 blew an electrical rod and forced the train to stop on the busy mainline and halted rail traffic for hours. This caused Conrail to ban all steam operations for the next several years.

Although I did read up on this via Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt

Does anyone remember when #4070 ran excursions to Conneaut Lake Park in Pa.?
@pauls.80804 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember when they ran the Conneaut Lake spur of the B&LE in 1973 and I think 1974 too. Spent a weekend or two working on cars and got a cab ride on last run of the day. Engineer started train [in reverse first] in a most dramatic way; throttle and reverse in dead center, hold independent on, open throttle, let off independent, throw in full reverse, power reverse would move valve linkage and with steam already down to piston valves she just chuff right out of there.Got to see it run a 1983 IIRC trip from Akron to Willard in the fall, help light way for people at Akron on late Sunday night return.

Sorry. Where it said married it was supposed to say narrated.
