I completely feel the "security blanket" hair. A few months ago I lost my long gorgeous rapunzel locks to a confused stylist and I'm still not over it. I had wanted to get a haircut for over a year between 2021-2022 but things kept getting in the way of me getting it cut. It was just past my butt and I KNEW I needed a lot cut off to get it healthy. So I asked to have my hair cut to the middle of my back. The stylist brought up my hair between her fingers to a point I THOUGHT we were agreeing on. Yes, she'd brought the section up around eye level and I said YES to her cutting the length between her fingers, and was absolutely struck dumb as she started cutting RIGHT BELOW MY SHOULDERS!! I sat in silence as I watched my hair fall. When she was done, I stood up, gestured to my husband to pay and walked past him to the door, gt in my car and drove us home in shock. I went upstairs, and automatically reached to pull my hair up. My husband walked in and said, "you ok?" Just as my hands were registering the fat STUB that was left of hair I've kept long for YEARS. I just started bawling....I KNOW there are worse things, and that hair grows, but in that instant it felt like my security blanket had been stolen. Anxiously waiting for it to grow out again, but in the meantime I discovered I look adorable in tiny pigtails😁

Oh hey I'm an ex hairdresser too! I graduated as one in Sweden! I actually got a diploma and all but I quit because I found out it's just not for me. It was incredibly stressful and fast paced, too fast for me. Plus ultimately I realized I'm more interested in the chemistry, biology and counseling parts of my job. There's nothing more I love than to help educate and figure problems out when it comes to people struggling with their hair or what to use/not use or what terms or ingredients mean/do. Unfortunately trichology is not an option in Sweden as it is not yet seen as a legitimate doctorate, but if it was I would probably continue to study as a trichologist (basically hair and scalp doctor).

For one of the best ways to get that 'stuck stiff' hair look without using tons of hairspray is using just soap bars and water, its one of the best ways to get those punk spikes without it lathering your hair in hairspray and gel, you want non coloured soap bars and damp hair. You section the hair up and rub small amounts of soap along the hair so your not bubbling it up but lathering the hair in a layer of it kinda thing, It only really works best on shorter hair, longer hair you usually need some wiring to keep them stuck straight, you can just wash it all out after. (Its a very 80s/90s technique)

I let my hair grow out the entire 2020 and 2021, only to cut most of it off again in December 2021. Now I'm finally back at that lob phase and I decided I will not be cutting that short again (At least for the next 3 years or so).
