Ex-intelligence official discusses lab leak theory at House hearing on COVID origins | full video

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held its second hearing Tuesday on the origins of COVID-19. One of the witnesses testifying, former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, told the panel that "a lab leak is the only explanation credibly supported by our intelligence." Another witness, Mark Lowenthal, who served as vice president of the National Intelligence Council, reminded lawmakers that there has not been "sufficient intelligence" to "make a firm judgment" on the origins of the virus. He noted that several U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed, with low confidence, that COVID originated naturally.

The Democrats didn't put together a Covid Origins committee because they were protecting Dr. Fauci's culpability in the gain of function research at the Wuhan lab that created the Covid-19 virus. Also, because Trump had said early on that Covid came out of the Wuhan Lab, the Dems would never do anything that could possibly prove Trump was right about anything.

When you reason about such things, you have to determine who has to prove what based on history, previous understanding, etc. All know pandemics BEFORE covid had a natural origin. The black death, rats and fleas. And so on and so forth. So logically the default assumption here is that covid also had a natural origin. If you DIDNT do that you could assume anything you want. Perhaps a space alien sparked off covid. Maybe it hitched a ride on a comet. Perhaps a unicorn was sick with covid. The point is that there are thousands and thousands of POSSIBLE sources for covid. But if you want to PROVE them you need to bring some evidence. They still don't know where the Spanish flu originated from, so don't be shocked they don't have covid Sussex out yet.

It is very interesting to me that most all of our medicines are made in China. I would love to know why we pay the highest prices when the drug companies have China do this very important job for Americans. Covid happened. Looking in the rearview mirror does not really help, unless you consider that maybe we should start providing Americans to do the work in the United States regarding big pharma. The reality though, I have less confidence in Americans to not make a mistake in a lab. Human beings make mistakes. We have so many recalls on items made in the United States. I am more interested in how we treat the people who have long covid. That actually is worth the time of our government. The rest just seems like a complete waste of time.

There's no evidence to substantiate that he's compromised. This hearing was... predictable. Republicans: "We think it came from a lab. Can you tell us why that's a plausible, if not the most plausible, explanation? Also, why weren't we allowed to pursue this avenue of investigation? Was it a coverup? Why do you think so? Do you think there might be personal or political conflicts of interest at play?" Democrats: "We need to discover the origin of this virus to prevent and prepare for future pandemics.
