One of the unique and really wonderful things about your channel Adrian is you don't just teach to play the guitar but also share and divulge music, artist and genres with a little bit of documentary taste to it. I can only speak for myself, but every Friday I'm anxiously waiting for the lesson but even more waiting to discover something new!
@cskueny5 жыл бұрын
Same here. Friday morning = looking forward to new Adrian video, and I've been learning to play songs that had never occurred to me to try before, and buying music by bands I'd never heard of a short time before. And learning to play some songs that were already favorites. Just this week, working on both Mississippi John Hurt and Wire.

Wire is an influence for a lot of band, for sure. What strikes me withe this song, is the direct influence for "just like heaven" from The Cure !
@joebowles065 жыл бұрын
Might be, or might just be that it's a really simple chord progression. I actually figured this one out just by messing with some open chords, D-A-E-G, and realized "Hey, that's Wire!"

I thought the same. Smith loved Wire, so...

Oh YES. Wire is one those bands that made me think I could play guitar and write songs too. I discovered them late as well with their sorta reunion album "The Ideal Copy" which is more synthy. Then went back to buying their early records and was captivated by them and their originality. Looking forward to your other Wire vids.

Many people find 80s Wire to be their least appealing. Adrian mentioned "Red Barked Tree," which is relatively recent and is a masterpiece.

When I saw them in , maybe 1987, they weren't playing any of their old stuff, so somebody, probably the concert promoter had a Wire tribute band play an opening set of songs from Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154. They were called The Ex Lion Tamers.

It was called "Post" Punk because a lot of the originators of the genre worked for the Royal Mail delivering letters and parcels. At the time being a Mailman was the ideal job for the budding musician because you practically had the whole afternoon off to practice and jam wiith your mates.

Another great consideration from PF is 106 beats that. The chords are based on the names of train stations when Colin Newman was travelling. You end up with a chord progression that is totally random. It’s fantastic

Fantastic lesson Adrian! I've loved Wire for years and never quite understood their lyrics but always dug their sound. Thanks for breaking this one down! Their songs are so short and unusual it's hard to pick out the chords, but that's part of their charm. Maybe I Feel Mysterious Today, Outdoor Miner and Question of Degree next ... thanks!!

Read somewhere that Ex Lioner Tamer is so named because it was a tune they had called Lion Tamer. Being unhappy with the lyrics they rewrote them. Amusing if true.

I've always considered it tricky to refer to Wire as 'post-punk' given that they were there from the very start; probably better to refer to them as creators of post-punk (with others, obviously...)
@kelechi_77 Жыл бұрын
Art-punk. I wouldn't even call this song or any songs on Pink Flag post-punk, it's only until they get to chairs missing that they get that label.
