Always worth hearing another viewpoint but got a couple holes in his logic about legalising drugs there IMO. Wrong to buy cannabis because you're giving money to crooks. Okay fair enough let's legalise it then. Nah they'll just find another crime to commit waste of time. Yes lets punish users for crimes other people are intent on committing regardless of what the laws are. Totally fair.

Lots of people in the UK. The majority of the British public have great respect for the police and the hard job they do. Less so with hoodlums who break their toys whenever a criminal gets hurt. Yes, we loath corruption, and police brutality. But its really not as much of an issue here. Not anymore. Don't confuse the UK with the USA. Most people here aren't far left or far right but sensible liberal folks. In sharp contrast with extremist USA. It's the government we blame for these things, not people employed by the government.

Seems a sound fella but his view that drug dealing criminality will remain if drugs are legalised is flawed. The reason there is no underground alcohol dealing criminality is because it’s available to buy from retail and there is zero market for criminals . The exact same would happen with canibus was legalised . He seems to skirt around the debate by generalising that all criminal activity will never go away.
@mikethomas44233 жыл бұрын

It was a good interview and very interesting but I think you need to do more research on the modern drugs situation - a lot of addicts are now addicted to heroin *and* crack; rather than just cocaine. It's cheaper and provides a quicker hit. It's also more harmful to health especially when combined with strong smack. The heroin users from the 80s and early 90s are an aging segment of users (indeed, many have died off) but they & younger addicts (often the children/grandchildren of the 80s generation) are increasingly addicted to crack, smack and strong cannabis. It's a really toxic mix and far more damaging to physical & mental health combined than either drug by itself. Combining strong stimulants & sedatives is awful for the heart

When you mentioned the stats that you are more likely to be stabbed when you are carrying a knife than when you aren't, is it not also worth considering that those stats will be unbalanced in that the sort of person that would carry a knife is the sort of person that would be targeted vs someone who wouldn't carry a knife is less likely to be involved in that life, so the person being stabbed who is carrying a knife has a higher chance of being stabbed whether they have a knife on them or not? If that makes sense?

The uk prisons are jam packed, sadly there isn’t enough room to lock up all the paedophiles. I work within the criminal justice system (CJS) I do believe certain crimes like domestic abuse and paedophilia do not have harsh enough sentencing guidelines, as these crimes are devastating to the victims. I have thought about alcohol and drug use in relation to the CJS, alcohol misuse costs the public sector millions of pounds a year (in health care, policing, mental health sectors)- however, the government makes millions on VAT etc on this. (Plus the jobs it creates in pubs, clubs & supermarkets). However, drugs are not taxed, so the government makes no income.......... Food for thought right there. (I do not use drugs, & I believe they are harmful to people and the wider community).

I have to say crack cocaine in my area is a lot worse than heroin ever was. The people on crack are constantly doing crazy things, like kicking shop windows in, just to snatch stupid things, they snatch handbags off old woman, they pinch collection boxes off shop counters, they burgle anywhere, and everywhere, to get enough money for their next session of pipes. There was a time when heroin was worse, but all the old heroin users have now turned to crack cocaine, and they are worse than ever. I think peoples opinions on cocaine are based on them knowing friends who have a line at the pub on the weekend, but that's just the side of cocaine they get to see, the other side of it, is disgusting, users lock themselves in their house, until all their cocaine is gone, and then they run around like headless chickens, panicking, and trying to earn enough for their next session of pipes, and most of these people get psychosis on a regular basis while using crack, obviously that's going to lead to severe mental health problems in the furure if they don't get off it asap.
