As someone who went to war full of the flush of youthful testosterone, then saw what it really involved and that the reasons our leaders sent us to fight in a foreign land didn't exactly pan out, I can say that my willingness to fight was somewhat curtailed! That is true and thumbs up. But in his situation there isn't much. Ending up in Wagner already means that the environment failed him. @@Sim0000n Russia's not unique, every imperialistic aggressor nation is harsh on their armies. I don't think society should accept anymore the "just following orders" excuse. No, while those that give the orders should certainly be punished above all, those that follow them also need to be punished. But those that follow can't be allowed to simply walk away either. We need to get it through our collective heads as a global society that "just following orders" is not a good excuse and that we all ultimately take personal responsibility for our decisions.

My own employers, The Western European Union, was tasked with monitoring the reformation of Germany after WW2. It took until 1990 for us to become comfortable with their stability as a democratic nation, indeed the current reservations they have about using the Leopard tanks in a non-defensive manner (the war may soon be fought on Russian soil, as nobody trusts them to surrender and mean it) suggests we may have gone too far! Better that than have yet another celebration of Prussian competence. It took nearly two generations to clear the apologetics, those whose response to the facts was "yes, but..." Yes, but Hitler told us to do it. Yes, but it wasn't as bad as all that. Yes, but... really is denial. And those raised under Communism, whose personalities fixed aged 7-8 with it as their "normal" will be incapable of changing that. We can only outlive them.

@@sonoransaguaro8428 Watching the movie made me see the irony of today's Russians following a path that is, in many ways, similar to the path of Nazi Germany: (1) A citizenry pre-conditioned by economic and political collapse (the 1990's fall of the Soviet Union), (2) nearly universal support for a strong leaader (Putin) after unsuccesfully making an attempt at Capitalistic-Democracy (or whatever term you want to use), (3) deep appreciation and loyalty to the leader for elevating their prosperity and their pride in Country, (4) acceptance of an authoratrian state that mistreats those on the periphery of the empire, (5) support for a war of expansion against its closest neighbor to recover "lost lands" that belong to the homeland, (6) maintaining staunch national support in response to worldwide recriminations, (7) the identification and creation of scapegoats, boogeymen (the West) and/or other excuses so the people can continue their support for "Der Leader." (8) the refusal to examine or even look at Russia's needless infliction of civilian casualties, or any of the many other atrocities committed against Ukraine, ..... all that remains is..... (9) the complete ruin of the Russian economy, and (10) Russia's collective national response, over time, to the inescapable reality caused by Russia's cataclysmic defeat on the battlefield. Years from now, someone will make a movie about Russia's immoral violence against its neighbor. They can probably take the script from "Judgment at Nuremburg" and simply change the names, and a few details, to accurately describe the "National Mindset" that is enabling and furthering Russia's recent crimes againt humanity.

How are you so sure? Were you there? You can't just assume that if he is from the Wagner group or that he is Russian, then he must have committed war crimes or killed unarmed people. You have to realize that some or most of those people do not want to be there.. they either had no choice or were forced to take part because if they didn't they would be shot dead on the spot (or simply held imprisoned for the crimes he may have never committed. Just look at how corrupt the country.. it isn't easy to be put in prison you just have to sneeze at the wrong person.). If he was a true loyalist or patriot (blind sheep) towards Putin, then he wouldn't have fled, abandoning his mates and his beliefs. Please stop being judgmental because if you are like that you just prove what the Russians title people from the west as "Russophobic".
@joech1065
@joech1065 Жыл бұрын
@@eh4372 Again, this is all speculation. A minority of Russian soldiers, including mercenaries from Wagner, commit war crimes. Not because they are good, but because a) not all of them are put in a position to commit them to begin with, b) when they can, many of them still want to think of themselves as good guys, so they dodge that and the system just finds somebody else to do the dirty work, as there's enough supply of murderers and sadists or 3) somebody else has done it already. Moreover, Wagner in particular has a special unit that is just there to do dirty work. It is not as black and white as you want to portray it. There's a lot of nuance and gray zone. For example, this particular mercenary has witnessed executions of Russians, and, AFAIR, Ukranians too. Is that participation? That is for a court to decide. If he was just nearby, that might not be. But if he was guarding the area and knew what was about to happen, analogous to trials of Nazis in the past, that is likely to be considered an accessory to murder. See how nuance is all the difference from being guilty and not being guilty? He also claims that he was trying to stop some of the atrocities from happening. We don't know that. We need witnesses to be able to corroborate or deny it. Saying that he “for sure” has commited horrors on others or have not, is just inaccurate.

At the beginning of the war the Ukrainian army was said to have some 2,500 tanks, 12,500 armored vehicles and 3,500 large artillery systems. It is doubtful that more than half of those were in a usable state, but they may have received enough repair to be workable. The Russia military claims that most of those have been eliminated: 7,549 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 984 fighting vehicles equipped with MLRS, 3,853 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 8,081 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation. If one doubts those numbers one has to ask why the Ukraine has needed to import so many more weapons and is still short of them: 410 Soviet-era tanks delivered by NATO members in former communist bloc, including Poland, Czech Republic and Slovenia. 300 [Armored/Infantry Fighting Vehicles], including 250 Soviet-designed IFVs from former communist states. 1,100 [Armored Personnel Carriers], including 300 M113 troop carriers and 250 M117s. 300 towed howitzers. 400+ pieces of self-propelled artillery, of which 180 is on order. 95 [Multiple Rocket Launchers] There were also a number of fighter airplanes, helicopter and air-defense systems. The above was the second army, after Ukraine's original one was mostly gone, that has by now been nearly eliminated. The Russian clobber list now regularly reports of combat with Ukraine forces that kills, for example, one tank, three armored vehicles and a number of pick-ups and motor vehicles: One Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group has been eliminated near Liman Pervy (Kharkov region). The enemy has lost over 50 Ukrainian personnel, one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, and two pickups. ... [In Donetsk direction] over 60 Ukrainian personnel, one tank, three armored fighting vehicles, and six motor vehicles have been eliminated. ... Two AFU sabotage and reconnaissance groups have been eliminated in the area to the north of Levadnoye and Vladimirovka (Donetsk People's Republic). The enemy has lost up to 40 Ukrainian personnel, two armored fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles. Pick-ups and unarmored motor vehicles should avoid the frontline and certainly not be part of force attacking the immediate frontline. If these reports reflect the current structure of Ukrainian forces, as I believe they do, then its state is indeed dire. In his Economist interview General Zeluzhny has requested a third army to be delivered to him immediately: “I know that I can beat this enemy,” he says. “But I need resources. I need 300 tanks, 600-700 IFVs [infantry fighting vehicles], 500 Howitzers.” As the Economist writer dryly noted: The incremental arsenal he is seeking is bigger than the total armored forces of most European armies. The stocks of two complete armies have by now been destroyed in Ukraine. The resources for a smaller third one will be delivered in the next rounds of 'western' equipment deliveries during the next months. Russia will dully destroy Ukraine's third army just as it has destroyed the first and second one. It is doubtful that the 'West' has enough material left to provide Ukraine with a fourth one.

There was a time in the United States if you were found guilty of a criminal infraction you could either go to prison or you could go into the military. Now, if you have a prison record you're not eligible for the military.

It’s been almost a year since the start of the war in Ukraine, I and my beloved wife Megan began to mobilize our charity response. Our global community has been there every step of the way, helping us meet basic needs, establish a presence where we’re needed most, and build a foundation to provide long-term support. Our team members continue to support local surrounding countries that are providing food, water, shelter, and other supplies and services to families doing what they can to survive. We’re expanding our response efforts and adjusting priorities as the conflict carries on and needs to become more complex. Here are some of the ways Prince Harry Foundation and our partners are helping: 1- Delivering cash assistance directly to people who have been internally displaced or impacted by the war so they can buy what they need most. 2- Providing psychosocial care to traumatized children and parents to help them cope with the stress and emotions brought on them by the war 3- Setting up hotlines and websites to consolidate and provide updated information for those seeking refuge both in and outside of Ukraine. 4-Providing shelter, legal assistance, translation services, and transportation to those fleeing conflicts in Ukraine We cannot do it alone, let’s all help with the little or less. We have to save a soul today. Make an impact on someone’s life today for support. Email: info@princeharry.foundation WhatsApp number: +1 484 219 4651

Well, just have a look at the history of KGB and FSB spy techniques. It doesn't fit the mold. In any event, I'm perfectly happy to let the various NATO intelligence agencies (including Norway's) deal with him. Perhaps he's a significant asset. Perhaps he's just a propaganda coup for the West.
