Calvin Cheng, u sounded so confident like an academic but evaded commenting why previous SMCs with high% of opposition voters were redrawn to be part of GRC with high% of pap voters! Younger singaporeans are not as dumb timid as the PAP and u think!

Calvin's explanation on gerrymandering makes sense generally (eg in the context of US, UK) BUT in Singapore, there's the unique feature of GRCs vs SMCs. While it may not be possible to gerrymander based on racial enclaves or similar features, a "dangerous" SMC (eg Joo Chiat in 2011) can be absorbed into a larger "safer" GRC (eg Marine Parade in 2015) if the view is that the GRC is "safe enough" to absorb the higher % of opposition votes from the "dangerous" SMC. sadly this was not addressed by Calvin's response and was also not addressed by PAP's (CCS) response in parliament

Joo Chiat SMC’s fate serves as an example of this trend. It was merged into Marine Parade GRC in 2015.

Calvin can give a possible explanation why there was no changes of boundary in opposition held wards? PP by all criterias should cease to exist as SMC. Aljunued GRC boundary is still the same for the past 3 electuons while other GRCs have seen drastic alterations. Let dont forget population movements applies everywhere including opposition wards. Did PAP instruct EBRC not to touch opposition ward in order to be seen as fighting fair? While EBRC dont have info on voting trend,PAP does have based on feedback on their election agents station in various electoral precincts in the past elections. Voting trend isnt as uniformly spread across the island as u put it. Qns here is did EBRC let someone in the higher authority micromanage their works?

If you have 1 cup of milo & 3 cups of water, and you divide up the milo into those 3 cups - we are expected to believe that those 3 cups will now contain milo gao instead of diluted milo? This is a terrible interview and I’m disappointed that instead of questioning his views it’s just a channel for him to spout nonsense. CC is a smart man so his comments must be calculated - which makes it worse. The idea that dividing up an electorate that has a tendency to vote a certain way might cause 3 other districts to swing the opposite direction doesn’t even pass the smell test.
