Ex-Scientologist & KZbinr Doug Kramer (Dazed but not Confused) was supposed to go live on KZbin Monday night. When he did not show up to his livestream appearance, his followers became panicked. They contacted all hospitals in the area, including the psych ward, called the LAPD, and tried to file a missing person report. Is Doug actually missing?

This was filmed after 10-12 hours of him going missing. I was protecting Doug who was a very private person from unhinged viewers engaging in parasocial behavior doing this for their own entertainment. His mom had to beg police to do the welfare check yesterday when the police didn’t want to go to his residence. He was already gone within an hour of him missing the live stream. None of us are responsible or could have saved him. His mom heard of him going missing from these videos & I was thanked for raising awareness of his situation. Do better.

There are a million reasons why Doug would have missed a live. Very few of those reasons would warrant intervention by authorities, and even fewer by his audience. You are absolutely correct, he's an adult - he has a personal life with people in it who are more knowledgeable about whether his situation warrants such action. As of Friday, December 8th at 12:30pm, there is no update on Doug or his whereabouts. We still have not heard from him & don’t know anything. When I filmed this video, it was around 12 hours of Doug being “missing” and I assumed he was taking a break or forgot to go live. I’m worried now, especially as no one has been able to reach or locate him.

I got a notification of Doug's live Monday, showed up late to find everyone freaking out that he was not on. After hanging out for a bit, I saw the direction the chats were going and was - honestly - horrified, being a very private person myself. I thought nothing else of it until I saw your video. You are on point, Steve. It's my business to worry if I know someone personally, but even then, my last resort would be any kind of intervention involving authorities or invasion of privacy.

I can understand his subscribers being concerned. Once, I was in the chat of a youtuber who was scheduled to go live. People started getting worried when he didn't show up after two hours. I figured he was ill and just forgot to cancel the livestream and I was trying to calm everyone down. The next day, the stream was still up and people in the chat were still there chatting and worried as could be. The stream STILL stayed up after a week and nobody could find out what happened to this guy. Yes, we were all worried sick. Finally, a couple of days later, it was confirmed that he had died. I get why people would be worried and scared.

First off, lemme just say THANK YOU. I co-sign everything here. Yes, I was the person who was trying to contact Mitch and Lara, but that was last night, WELL after people had already been talking about looking up his address, calling the cops, calling hospitals (which *horrified* me and I said as much in that chat), etc. because I figured that if Doug was just holed up in his apartment, maybe having a familiar face knock on his door would be less spooky, rather than some rando or the cops. And yes, I *am* calling those people randos. Am I concerned? Yes. But I've also been informed that sometimes he just does this, and he's been covering some heavy stuff recently, so I cannot blame him for wanting to go off somewhere and hide for a few days. I've done what I can to let him know that people are concerned, and that's all I can do. He's not a dancing monkey, he's a whole-ass adult. I hope that he comes back in good shape and feeling better about life.

I stand by my words & if it wasn’t tragically the worst case scenario, Doug would have thanked me. He is a very private guy. Me & Marisa were his real life friends. The behavior in the chat when he was missing for only a few hours was unhinged & the same antics people like the Kardashians get restraining orders on. The babysitting behavior of worried watchers when he missed his stream. My first video was after only 10-12 hours and I was doing what I could to protect my real life friend who I deeply care for. Guess what? I was on hold an hour with LAPD for the welfare check & could not get the officer on the phone. His mom saw my video to hear he was missing!! So, she tried & the police here DID NOT want to show up to his place even with the circumstances explained and she had to beg them from what I hear. So a random chat room viewer would have trouble getting the welfare check since we DID NOT even have an apartment number. Should a never in Aftermath fan be the person to get the phone call he passed away in his bed & then have to go to Ventura county area to tell his mom and break the news? Should that be how it went?

Marisa is awesome! She's a good one. I have learned a lot from her - from the how's and why's things happen and why certain trolls (*cough* ZDT *cough*) should never be taken seriously. I was concerned for Apostate Alex when he missed his live stream with Amy Scobee and left a comment hoping he was okay and thanking Amy as she updated me but I was ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY with people calling the police to check on him!! It crosses a privacy boundary and is a waste of police resource. Marisa is awesome and I hope she doesn't get too bombarded with the unhinged "cult groupies" and these police callers reflect on this (or have an auditing session on it if that's more their thing 🙄)

Thank you for asking about my opinion. I definitely see and respect your perspective and your position regarding Doug. I also have the view that I am just a follower of Doug's and there is a "pecking order" of who should step forward and check on Doug's Well-being. My "pecking order" is not even on the first page of names and therefore all I can do is wait and hope that he is OK . I am confident people who are much closer to him will step up to the plate when the time is right. I say when the time is right because this is something you do not do 12 hours after he misses a live Q&A. I am a logical critical thinker and am able to see various perspectives people may have on a situation. I would like to share a different possibility. When you are a KZbinr and you have a following, you can become somewhat of a celebrity, at least to the people who follow. When the KZbinr goes live or they upload videos, some followers make a "connection" with the KZbinr. When a follower sees the KZbinr enough times and over months or years, there can be a connection or friendship to where the follower feels they are "friends". This connection and friendship is made from the point of view of the follower and not the KZbinr. Therefore if a KZbinr goes MIA then followers that felt a close friendship and care about their well-being may step up to the plate and do everything they could to find any information about and whereabouts. In the minds of these followers, their behavior and actions are justifiable. I have no statistics on how much this is an issue with KZbinrs and their followers. Especially if the KZbinr fails to show up on a video that was scheduled. I only know of two cases this has happened and both times followers have overstepped their duties as followers to locate the KZbinr. I am just throwing this out there as a suggestion, I would think to avoid followers overstepping boundaries to locate someone they feel is their "friend," KZbinrs need to discuss and make it clear, they have close friends and family that would step up to the plate on the KZbinr behalf if something should happen. KZbinrs need to educate their followers in case they go MIA there are people currently in their life that will step up to the plate and therefore there's nothing for their followers to do.

I agree with you, for the most part, especially about what is and isn't appropriate for YT followers to do. It makes me a little uneasy about whose responsibility it is, in regard to the establishment of boundaries. I would tend to put more responsibility on the followers to recognize those, but grew up in a different time. i guess that i am old, and you are right. It's hard to even find the words... It would not occur to me to consider my interactions with a content creator to be a true "relationship," though i guess that is the whole meaning of "parasocial." If i sub to somebody's channel, then i like them. I appreciate their information, their content, or entertainment value. Some of them might recognize me in the chat, if i'm in there enough, in the same way that a bartender recognizes a regular customer, but i'm not "in their life," per se. When they turn off the stream, THAT'S their life. We really know nothing about them; nor they about us. I think that it is our responsibility to remember that, as viewers, but i guess that content creators have to make their boundaries known, for those who don't. It makes me want to get off of social media, or at least set some serious limits on it, and I'm not even a content creator. It's great for exchange of information and ideas, but really not so great socially. Parasocial relationships are weird and virtual. We mostly see only one side, and show only what we want to show, but society has really drifted into them. It really doesn't feel very healthy.

No people are crazy I run a FB group and once when pregnant I was feeling emotional and complained about my husband not in a bad way but they took it he was being abusive he isn't several members found my phone number and called me and the police. If there's one thing I've learned from doing KZbin, it's that you need to compartmentalize yourself and ignore the naysayers. If you've given those people an ounce of yourself trying to engage with them, or if they live rent free in your mind, then you have already given them the power. There are people who I thought were friends who stabbed me in the back, just because my channel was getting more subs that theirs, and they've said some fairly nasty things about me in the past. But I mostly just ignored it and went on with my life. I have nothing whatsoever to do with scientology and never will, but as someone who I feel is in touch with the real world, the last thing I would do is making a public video vlog about my past experiences with that cult. I know that you might think its your way of dealing with past trauma, but eventually you just have to go on with your life and let that part of your past go. Life is too short. I don't know you, and I mainly subbed because I like hearing the fucked up stories about Scientology and the fact that the government still allows it to exist, and maybe I'm completely wrong in my assumptions. But it seems like you're perpetuating the drama by continuing to talk about it like this. Anyway... I hope your friend turns up. He probably went dark for a bit to clear his mind. Take care.

Take care Steve and get well. I've watched lots of the SCN presenters. Lately, too much drama. I like Doug's approach and have heard your story and agree with your perspective. I've taken a step back, didn't know Doug was "missing". Will wait for the explanation. As you noted with your own story, many people get connected to presenters because what is being shared has triggered within them an emotion which connects them to the presenter. Maybe, this is a lesson for everyone. I think someday in the future some research will be done on how humans' ability to connect and communicate in person has been changed due to all the technology. How many people do not have a support system of friends/family around them and lean towards UT presenters, thinking of them as family/friends? I used on one chat the word "disconnection" in regard to the Aaron situation. The reaction was rather interesting. I was told it was a SCN term and no one but a SCN would understand. Well, I differ, no group owns the dictionary on words which triggers an emotion. Also, living within that bubble doesn't allow one to know all the situations people live in.

His mom had to beg for a welfare check yesterday when police did not want to present to his home. This is not my fault or anyone else’s fault. Aged well or not, he’s no longer with us.
