It's not purely mental. It's physiological but with time, you mentally build up psychological buildups. My aunts, uncles, cousins stutter so it's genetic

Which part of stuttering is genetic? The holding back mentality or the blocks and repetitions?

@@evansmutambu5890 don't know about that but it's genetic my father used to stutter but somehow he cured it, my sister used to stutter and she cured it as well and here I'm trying my best but still can't do it.

Stuttering is a leaned behavior and it should be treated as such.Certain inherited factors such as beliefs and perceptions play a vital role in development and persistence of blocking in later life.

I don't think the "genetic" or "brain scan" arguments do anything to suggest stuttering isn't largely/purely psychological. Psychological predispostions and personality definately have a genetic basis. As for brain scans, of course you'd expect to see differences between a stutterer and non-stutterer because of neuroplasticity and learned behaviours/habits, as you touched on. It would be much more unusual for their not to be any visible difference in brain activity. There probably is a type of stutter/stammer that is due to a physiological condition, like you may see in older people or those who've experienced brain trauma or some physiscal disease, but that is very different to what we're all talking about here who is someone who has highly variable speech performance based on the situation/context/mood, often associated with strong emotions such as fear, anxiety, self-doubt, shame, etc.
