He only went 2 for 5 but his logic was almost always on point. The cards he said were or weren't good were just because he didn't know the context. Like with mystic mine he knew it was good but didn't know it could be played in anything. Similar to misc he knew it was good but just assumed dinos weren't so he said it's bad. For someone with such little experience with the game that's really impressive.

Well to be fair, I think Monster Hunter was not as famous back then. Like sure if you look it up on the internet you would find the community, but prior to MHW it's not exactly common to find people who also plays/know the series. I personally never met anyone who played/know MH before MHW released (at least where I lived anyway) so I was stuck playing with my brother on the PSP

Some critique I have for these videos is to show the cards more. Some other videos like this leave the card on screen the whole time. But I’d show the card at start. Maybe once again when he is asking questions about it (maybe cards you are mentioning while answering questions). Then once again when you reveal if it’s good or not. Halfway through, as someone new the yugioh, I forgot sometimes what card was being talked about or what exactly it did. And not being shown the card again after the very first time it hinders my ability to play along.

I would argue Lumina threw him off in the Misc evaluation because it reads as an excellent card but way too specific and outright bad outside of its gimmick. The Mystic Mine analysis though was on point. Card started as a terrible meme card, then everyone realized they could just go for "Mystic Mine the card" and not "Mystic Mine the deck" and warped an entire format on its own.

I would love to see ActMan or some other * struggling to find an inoffensive word to convey what I mean * in one of those one day. Like, it could be more of a "new card or old card" than "bad card or good card", presenting them with some ridiculous, banned oldies like Metamorphosis or Magical Scientist (cards they have never seen in the anime) and put them next to stuff like War Rock-like cards, overly fair and average at best, even compared to stuff from old formats.

The thing with broken line is that it is spell speed 3, so it's a side card for going 2nd in trap decks. When your opponent makes a big annoying negate like a Baronne, which stops all of your trap plays, you just set this card in that column, set your other traps and pass turn to play in their turn. Most combo decks will usually not have any spell speed 3 responses to this and it can score you a +1 while also making sure that your plays go through.

The discussion about a card being good relative to its deck is quite interesting. Like Lumina and Guan Yun are decent/good cards in their deck, but those decks just arent good. Misc is incredible in the pop the baby Dino pile but the "other" dino deck, dinomorphia, doesn't really care about it. You could take it to the absurd extent and include Genius Loci!

Depends on your hand and the game state. Most times you just get Arc and call it a day, but in some instances summoning a Baby or Petite can be quite usefull. Especially if you have giant rex in grave to extend of the banish, or an active Ovi on field to pop da baby.

I get why someone would think misc is bad, because it's hyper niche to know that misc enables Dino's whole gameplan off of itself. The "knowledge" that animadorm is a level 1 that misc can summon, which in turn can pop the baby, is just too specific to hamguess misc as being good.

There is an issue with using cards that are kind of old, which is the question of what metric are you judging if they are good or not? Are you judging good now, or was it good at the time of release? Also, it is impressive that he immediately picked up on the no monsters on field strategy of mystic mine, most do not get that on a first reading.

How is Guan Yun a bad card while misc is a good card? They are both played at max copies of their archetypes and none outside. You're basically asking him if the archetype ancient warriors is good or not when he has seen only Guan Yun. This is why presenting staple cards is better since you don't need tons of context to understand.

Hearing him talk about Dinos like that when he played Lightsworns makes no sense. In that context, Judgment Dragon is one of the worst cards ever made. And it definitely was one of the best cards ever made, you just had to play it in Lightsworns. Otherwise it was useless, doesn't make it a bad card. That's like saying Chaos sorcerer was a bad card, because it requires you to have light and dark monsters.
