My group did a 1 healer p12 run and it really showed how nuts healers are. Not even accounting for something like scholar / sage trivializing content. Good job with this. Your explanation really shows the holes that healer fills.

my group tried to do p12s one healer as well and we quickly realized that none of us dps knew how the tank/healer specific mechanics worked lmao. would've basically had to prog the whole fight again so we just said screw it

This was a fun watch, and it was interesting how you used the Tank and DPS mitigation to overcome the mechanics in (like the 2 tank/6 of everyone else stacks). In general I love your guides, the visual clarity of how you present mechanics is unmatched IMO in both style and readability.

Unfortunately it also underlines how horribly overpowered they've made tanks since EW. They never should have added healing components to the tank short mits, especially not the shareable ones.

might be pretty tough when we were experimenting we had war war gnb pld and having one more pld made so much more difference i think it'd be very hard to keep 6 dps alive with 2 tanks with the current gear if you come back later with better gear maybe

the main issue you'd run into with only 2 support jobs is the pair stack mechanics during fire phase. you won't know who has it among the dps so that would lead to deaths

@@Avalon0217 ye, its the same concept as 8 tanks ex1, it's random you can't stack them for fear of doubling the pairs dmg and the vuln killing you. You can survive it as tank if you shake + short mit it. But if it's DPS.... it's 188k unmitigated dmg, which is doable.... just tight. and then the wroth stacks after do you no good either. Unironically, PLD can wings 3 instances of dmg, the spread into double raidwide after the 2nd pairs stack, assuming the PLD gives up GCDs for it. Ice first is a must.

As a healer, seeing this and the EX2 1 tank + 7 DPS clear just leaves me disheartened over the state of the healer role design in FFXIV

This has pretty much always been a thing in XIV. Several Ultimates were cleared without healers. If you optimize a fight to death and sacrifice DPS to Paladins spamming Clemency, that is. You're not going to see this happen in any content done in DF or PF. People make mistakes, people don't optimize their damage, LB gain and mit, people die. Just because XIV does not have you spam GCD heals for raidwides every 5 seconds does not mean healers are worthless.

I'd feel that way if it were easy to clear without healers, but this looks pretty brutal, and seems like it required a ton of theorycrafting, practice, and dumb luck. If anything, this video reinforces the value of healers.

@@Combo7-y2h But then that just makes healers more of a difficulty slider to make duties more consistent. The roles should be balanced with DPS being the best at dealing damage, tanks being the best at taking damage, and healers being the best at undoing damage. But with DPS and Tanks (mainly WAR and PLD) having more healing options in their kit, they're pushing healers out of their own role. Which is frustrating because healers can't even match the damage output of tanks (who outdamage healers by around 20-30%)

@@SunChaoJun Just because a challenge run like this is possible (spreading the healing options of the utilized jobs meticulously) doesn't push healers out of a healer role, who specialize in on-demand healing and mitigation. In a run like this, that absence is more pronounced. Healing not being engaging in standard parties for high end content doesn't mean healers are unnecessary.
