Dawn, you're awesome for going above and beyond. I'm sure you really didn't need to solder those contacts. Most likely there was enough solder on the underside, but yeah, whomever is doing the work at Begode needs to take some Soldering 101 classes 🙂 Nicely done. Oh, and wow, you have >6000-miles on that EX30? I didn't realize that you rode it so much!

Nah, you pull it out and do it from the other side, or if there is enough of a joint on the other side (where it would be soldered from in the factory) maybe that's not even an/the issue - if it flows through too far at the factory it can also melt the switch (I have melted through hole sockets before in that way lol). I just know that switches and buttons can sometimes fit in the holes very snugly and I myself have many times overlooked one of the pins even on a brief tug test because it was wedged in and didn't move. Later, the failures become from intermittent to frequent as it starts rattle loose - but since the other pins were in it didn't fall off and wasn't obvious until complete faiure. Just use everclear - I use clear grain alcohol to clean stuff. Isopropyl is a petroleum product and somehow always leaves residues...two strikes. "denatured" alcohol is methylated spirits (it will be BLUE in color, coloring is added) which is a blend of methanol and ethanol designed to make it poison so nobody can drink it - it's literally a tax issue. Food safe ethanol (190 proof or higher) is taxed as liquor but since denatured alcohol isn't drinkable it does not have to pay tax and is sold as cleaner/solvent/etc at an assumedly much cheaper price than something like everclear. Methylated spirits are illegal in California because methanol exposure causes cancer.

Did you check the back of the board? That where the soldering would generally be done. Solder on top is fine but not necessary
