The tool is now out! amzn.to/3N6bFci @ 2:35 the labeled tools are swapped, our bad! 15ah might be more lawn mower territory ,but it wont stop us from trying! Who's money is on DeWalt's DCF900 taking a top spot? If you find one sitting on a shelf before it's officially out, drop us a line! Haha Torque, who started TTC, is working in product development for Astro tools,who also make impacts (air). Always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

Love the channel. How about a worst case scenario competition for these tools. Using the worst available batteries and trying for the highest values. Perhaps a lower power tool with a cheap battery may perform better than a higher power model with a similar cheaper, or lower amp battery. Just throwing it out there, thanks guys!

It still boggles my mind how they get so much more torque out of basically the same size impact as the previous generation.
@tjboylan20
@tjboylan20 2 жыл бұрын
It’s actually very simple to create torque. Torque is force x distance so you can create it by 2 simple things more force which is a mix of acceleration and mass, and distance. So if you increase the hammer weight it’ll produce more torque and you can make the plastics all light weight and only use mass for the metal.

@@tjboylan20 If increasing hammer weight reduces acceleration too much then will produce less torque. I think it's safe to say it's not just a matter of increasing hammer weight from generation to generation. There's a lot of smart people trying to figure out ways to wrench every bit of power out of these for a given price point.

@@Kefka2010 Agreed. In order to increase the hammer weight while staying in the same housing would be to increase the material density substantially. Not likely. I do see that Black and Decker has a newly issued patent around the brushless motor (US 11,283,325) and the desire for more power for cordless tools. The patent makes to references to power increases, but it’s either that or lower manufacturing cost or both.

I just started collecting dewalt tools in the last year and boy what a lucky time to get into their ecosystem. I already have the DCF921, a powerstack, 5ah battery and a few other of their tools, but it looks like I might need to add this to my wishlist. They're absolutely killing it this year. I hope someone at dewalt is watching these videos and giving their engineers the appreciation they deserve.

@@802Garage I just came by an 894 a week ago, with the smaller light gun, a 5Ah and 4Ah (both XR) battery in a pawn shop for a couple hundred, thought I was getting a good deal until I saw this XD The impact is like new though basically, even though it's 2019, and the 5Ah is a 2020. Next I'm getting me a DCB416B, freaking ASAP. Such a small housing for so many beans in a cordless grinder, it's very excellent from what I could tell when I borrowed one for a day from Home Derpot. I could barely get it to lug down on a fresh 5Ah, and with the 6Ah Flexvolt that the B model makes extra use of I honestly struggled to bring the RPM down to even 3/4 of max while grinding on plate steel. I realize that not every tool can be all things to all people, but for the size and weight of that grinder, with a power stack and a knotted wire cup on it with a grinding wheel in my bolt bag, I'll be saving at least half an hour a day just chipping welds, and I don't think the extra 2k RPM makes the extra 2~lbs of the 418 worth carrying all day, let alone how much more bulky it is or the time I'll save over running to the pile of gubs/work trailer to get a grinder and extension cord the couple times a day we need it

I have an absolutely battered, close to worn out Dewalt 18v 1/2" impact I use day in and day out at work - when I got it (well used/cheap/kinda broken already really) it amazed me & relegated the air-powered guns to the bin - I wondered how I'd managed/why I'd managed to work so long without a "decent" battery impact wrench - I have no clue how many hours/thousand hours I wasted turning wrenches by hand over the years. If you're dithering about getting one - get one. You will wonder why it took you so long to get one. You will also never again want to be without one & will start watching Channels like Torque Test in order to figure out which one you're going to buy next - and that is entirely sensible because cordless impact drivers are the dogs danglies if you open/close fastners for a living.

The one thing that most buyers don’t realize Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Flex etc. They’re not competitors to each other. The power tool market is Monopolistic Competition meaning no company is a true competitor to each other just like gas stations. The reason is because all of their batteries are not interchangeable. Once you get deep into one line it’s not economically feasible to completely change your brand. If you have maybe 1 tool of each brand you may be able to swap fast but the majority of buyers of all these brands are already heavily into one brand. I’m personally deep into Milwaukee and it would be stupid to switch to another brand after I already have thousands of dollars in tool. However for sockets and hand tools the market is more feasible to switch but still monopolistic competition.

My First Milwaukee tool was the first GEN high torque 2763 which I use every day as an auto technician for the last eight years there wasn’t a nut or a fastener that it couldn’t takeoff. It can take off a Honda crank bolt very easily. I’m sure the second GEN 2767 could do it faster but until my first GEN breaks down I have no reason to make such a large purchase. So I’ve purchased many other Milwaukee tools due to their reliability and high quality and like you said I’m not going to switch over to any other brand just based on ratings. But I do believe if you start with an inferior brand and found bad results it is a good idea to switch to a top-tier brand.

Be nice to see that combo tried with say the 10 Amp/Hr 2P configuration or the 12 Amp/Hr 3P configuration as those are the largest capacity 21700 battery packs. I have the DeWalt high-torque and can say from my experience the 10 Amp/Hr 2P and 9 Amp/Hr which both make a difference with the 9 Amp/Hr being noticeably better/faster than the 5 Amp/Hr which tends to be my go-to battery in the larger tools. This mid-torque looks quite nice as the old high-torque isn’t great compared to some of the bigger Milwaukee’s. Higher torque in a smaller package is nice and it would be even better under some battery configurations; I defiantly notice a performance boost from the 21700 cell packs nearly irrespective of tool or “FlexVolt Advantage” or “Power Select” marketing DeWalt is putting out. I do wish DeWalt would just knock off the orange vs. blue marketing and just make a single line of tools to take best advantage of whatever battery you’re using.

I love my 899, does me fine. However I already know when the mac man stops and I stroll onto that van and see it there I'll basically throw my money at him. Funny how the tool envy thing works....

Has there ever been a test on the old 18v impacts with a 20v adapter on them? Comparing the gains or losses of upgrading batteries? If not I can send you my two impacts to do the tests.

Dewalt impacts just love the output of those 6ah batteries. I'm stoked to see what the new high torque can do with one strapped to it. Shoot, better yet. I'd love to see Dewalt come out with a kit that includes a 6ah, so all the bumblebee haters can't complain, "tHeSe ShOuLd HaVe JuSt CoMe WiTh OnE fRoM tHe JuMp ThEn". 🥴🥴

My thoughts on the 15ah result: The 6ah pack is rated to deliver 70A based purely on cells, the 15ah pack probably uses the 18650 25S (i've not found out what it actually uses yet) so should theroetically have a current limit of 150A (!!!) but presumably that is being bottlenecked by circuitry etc, and I suspect that many cells jammed together requires some sort of current drain management to prevent the middle of the pack from overheating.

This competition between huge companies is what makes the world advance. No matter what brand you get you'll likely be happy. I'm really happy dewalt has come back with such authority compared to how underpowered they were. They're seriously just as good as any other top tier brand.

The first DeWalt tools I got were a 14V drill and impact driver. Smaller and lighter so they fit in my toolbox along with everything else, and amazing power for their size. A pleasure to work with, and they've lasted... Since then I've bought other brands beside DeWalt, but after my experience with that first set, I've never spent money on cheap power tools ever again.

I wonder if some of the larger mah battery torque increase is due to the power transfer dynamics. More weight on the opposite end of the anvil should increase the efficiency of the blows, versus lost energy into the operators hand. You could try testing a specific battery like a Powerstack, then strap a few lbs. to the bottom of the battery.

right? If Dewalt continues with this line of new tools completely smashing their old tools, and thereby threatening the Red and Blue dogs....Its hard to stay brand loyal Hahaha. Too bad I am now all in Team Red, and gave my Dewalts away. The recent atomics and this thing really make me think maybe i should have waited....

With the dynamics of cell design and cell size when it comes to power delivery, I really want to see someone adapt 4680 cells for a power tool. Not only are they larger, but they're also 'tabless' and more akin to a pouch cell's tab design; a shorter, more direct path between tabs. I know there's probably patenting issues surrounding the cylindrical cell 'tabless' design, but I want to see a manufacturer make a tabbed and tabless variant of the same cell, at least for demonstration purposes, all other variables being equal, just to see how much of a benefit tabless is when it's the only difference. Although these cells would be overkill, apparently their spec sheet says that one cell has a 26Ah capacity with a marginal voltage of 4.61V, with an operating range of 4.2V to 2.8V, and a fast charge time (10-80% SOC) of 20 minutes. Again, overkill, but also the most amount of beans per cell; though it might actually be a good option for those industry-level batteries, like Milwaukee's MX line, an MX 1" impact could be very interesting, especially if MX ever adopts 4680s.

I'm kinda confused on the battery types. Which batteries are the new design that uses the 21700 batteries? Why are they better? And can somebody explain the power stacks. The one I looked at on Amazon has horrible reviews and many said its a one use disposable battery....
