I continue to revisit to "basque in the Energies of this Music" There's a point when every Musician becomes a Physicist and every Quantum Physicist becomes a Musician - its called an alignment and it is all about the Comprehension of - Energy Vibration and Frequency - *the foundation of the Universe* and the definition of *"The Universal Law of Attraction"* Artists do it - Scientists Define it and, "the Irish pay to go see it" - lol Thanks so much for this priceless sharing of "Sweets" and "Pep" 🍀

Miss seeing Peps amd Howard Alden the last few years here in CA, ,after catching so many of their shows in NJ during the 90s and early 00s. God bless Bruce Gast and the NJJS.

💬 Makes me think of ... Sinatra days --> that pure silk sound his musicians always had, Ken Peplowski could easily and absolutely have been in that grouo, and of course, Harry "Sweets" Edison was Sinatra's favorite Trumpet player too. Thats what it "makes me think of ..." 🎄

Yes, sadly Harry’s only contribution was his finger snapping but Ken makes one forget that. What a great, great clarinet player is Peplowski.

Please note bassist Murray Wall is an Aussie. We worked the Savoy Plaza in Melbourne 1968 - 1969 with Peter Whitford on drums. Plus we had great guest artists.

IMHO there have only been a handful of jazz clarinet virtuosos. Yes......lot of good jazz clarinet players, but few greats. Ken Peplowski stands with the best of the best. Goodman, Shaw, Daniels, DeFranco to name a few others........as if you don’t know! (Oh........forgot to add my childhood hero, Pete Fountain to that list. Pete was special, but I’ve come to realize he was ‘among’ but not ‘above’ the few other greats.)

Peps is one of the greatest clarinetists of all time. In the last 30 years, he is right there with Kenny Davern as an innovator of the the American Songbook....Allen Vache not far behind....
@laurielyon77405 жыл бұрын
Arturo Thanks, Arturo. Not as familiar with Davern but I will give a concerted ‘listen’ to him. And yes, Allen Vache is not far behind. Among his abilities on clarinet, is his dexterity in the upper register. Very impressive. I have a few of his CD’s and have been trying to copy his work on numbers like Shiny Stockings, transcribing using AnyTune Pro. I’m a 70+ amateur clarinet player with a love of the instrument. Life is good! Regards, Laurie

I wonder how many times Sweets has played this song throughout his career?
Ken’s tone is distinctive- soft and warm. Arti Shaw had a different distinctive tone. No other like it. Benny was incomparable, but his tone was different from era to era. Tone consistency was not his priority. All geniuses.

By 1994, Sweets was often a shadow of his former self, relying on lots of clichés (stock phrases), but here he volunters a good solo , and seems inpired by the excellent band !

Don't mean to take away from this wonderful performance, though this tune goes better with a vocalist on the date.
