I remember back in my old school when i was in grade 4, we had an english excerise where they would give us a picture and we are supossed to write a narrative based on the picture. Once, we were given a picture of a family in the backyard having a barbecue. And i looked at the picture and i thought "wow this is so boring." So i thought i should make it much more fun and exciting. So i had the idea that i should make this family in the picture ghosts that are heard occasionally playing in the backyard of an abandoned house by neighbours. Now, i liked the excersize a lot. But when the teacher marked the paper, she was furious because "that was not what i was supossed to write about" And i got really confused because i genuinely thought my idea was very different and dun and the teachers would like it. So i usually avoided writing differentn until i moved schools ofcourse haha. Never liked that teacher😒

Amina Gan-erdene: The main points that I learned is that the examiners like the characters to be very detailed when it comes to narrative writing, and it is often helpful when you use contrasting characters. The essay structure is also very important to the examiners, if you use many figurative language and you plan before hand, the examiners would enjoy reading your essay. But if you have poor planning, and if your writing is very dull, they may not enjoy it.

Sohyun Park I learned about the way to make the setting, specially the characters. Also i wasn't really sure how to end the narrative writing, and i didn't plan the ending, but i can understand it now and i also understood that we have to plan the ending. The different types of narrative writing that you mentioned in this video(for example: historical writing) gave me a lot of ideas to write some more narrative essays. I also learned about writing more interesting sentences and the things that are not good for the narative writing. Thankyou.

I have learnt that you have to use wide variety of words to describe your narrative writing Also its mandatory to fully identify the character or else it wouldn't be complete. Essay structure has to be planned so the examiners will be satisfied Thank you

as I've previously said I have pre-learnt a hell and heaven description and also the structure of the grade 9 story you showed. if the question asks for an opening of a story could I still use the same structure of the story although it has an end, as it could be a hidden story within a larger story?

Do our opening of a story have to be realistic. Can they be in different worlds(made up worlds) or historical time periods. Also, if it says write and opening part of a story suggested by a picture of something that is in our world (like a boat) do we have to write about the ideas that are basic, like a storm or a shark attack.
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish7 жыл бұрын
You need to check out my other videos in the story playlist. You can set your story in any world and any period in history, and no, you don't have to confine yourself to basic ideas. Enjoy this question in the exam, it is a proper test of your skill as a writer, so show off.

I don’t think either choice will make any difference to your mark. Decide what will help you get the reader to visualise what you are seeing, and do that. If the adjective helps, use it, if not, ditch it.
